Wings Over Europe - Hunter Mk.9

Post by Reheat »

Hi Guys,

Got a present earlier! My Girlfriend obviously decided I don't play enough flightsim's so she bought me "Wings Over Europe" the newish game from the "Strike Fighters" guys.

It allows you to play either a USAF or RAF pilot in a early 60's - Early 70's fictional "what if" cold war scenario.

Currently done the first few RAF Pilot missions flying my "Hunter Mk.9" and eventually I'll progress up to a "Harrier Jump Jet"

Despite some factual inacuracies its important to remember that this is a game aimed at the less hardcore sim market.

Its actually a lot of fun, the AI aircraft are programmed quite well. The VC is nice and the flight charachteristics are enjoyable, the hunter won't plough up to FL450 at 900kts as one might expect, speed and energy management is a big part of the sim

Shooting down a MiG-23 with guns is actually very rewarding!

Here are some shots, sorry about the lack of externals, I haven't worked out all the view commands yet!

Whereabouts did your better half get Wings Over Europe from? I've been following the series since the original Strike Fighters : Project One fiasco, but had to order that and Wings Over Vietnam from the states. If I could get Wings Over Europe in the UK it'd save me a few pennies.

I have WoV (Wings over Vietnam) and WoE (Wings over Europe) and I've been quite impressed. Even though it's "relaxed reality" simming, there are some neat things you can do with it. 'Tis interesting to be able to see what would have happened had a nuclear conflict actually occured and use of aircraft like the B-58 and B-52 had been required. Both the large number of SAMs and interceptors give you the ability to see if they really would have had a chance to make it in and drop their bomb or not.

Thanks Dan, I hadn't realised they'd found a UK distributer.
