Hmm...maybe I am too fient hearted, but...

... installed FSX, ran Defrag...great, no problems, thus far. Allocated various functions to buttons etc on my CH Yoke...again OK. Attempted to calibrate afore mentioned device.....mmmm...not a happy device Buttons work ok, X-Y axis, very confused and unstable. Z axis (Throttle) even more confused...locked at half open, latter half of arc only available. X rotation and Y rotation both operating but in reverse. Closed Sim and went to Game Controler via Control Panel...same behaviour noted.

Attempted a flight, no addons and default settings...aircraft totally unflyable, it bounced from one side of the runway to the next. When airborne it pitched and rolled more violently than any Bronco I have seen on TV.

Idea.....have a look at FS9....oooohhh deeeaaarrr. The problem was duplicated in there as well.

Uninstalled FSX...problem remained. Used System Restore, problem fixed.

That is it for me I'm afraid. The prospect of having to reinstall over 300GB of scenery, on top of a new Sim Install. Not to mention all the tweeks over many months to get to the "perfect" flying setup, is too daunting.

For the forseeable future I shall be sticking with old faithful...FS9. On this occasion I consider myself lucky to have got away without serious damage to my original Sim. Which, just out of interest, is on a dedicated machine and carefully nurtured.

I would also point out that I had to break my own rule. Because of online activation with FSX, I installed straight onto my Sim Machine. Normally I try new software...scenery, aircraft etc on a second machine to see that it runs ok first. This does limit what I can purchase, but, what you have never had, you never miss.

Perhaps in the coming New Year when Vista and DX10 are released, along with suitable graphic cards. I shal look toward aquiring replacement Sim Only Machine...we shall see.

In the meantime I shall continue to enjoy FS9 along with my limited purchases.

I have a CH Yoke, Pedals, and Throttle and did not have any of those problems. I suspect something other than FSX causing your issue. It's either your yoke or there is something else like out-of-date drivers at work here.

...all Windows Updates up to date and sweet. There are no specific drivers for the CH Yoke, it is a PnP device, using generic drivers built into Windows. Have been using the Yoke for about 2years now, without any problems.

I have not ruled out the option that it may just have been a quirk of the install process, on that occasion. And that if I were brave enough to retry, it may all run smoothly. But alas, I am not prepared to take that chance.

Have had one Heart Attack, three years ago. I really can do without another  [/quote]

gotta love system restore.. I frequently use it .. setting system
restore points Expecially if I'm installing something that
might muck up my system

another glitch in FSX has surfaced
I'm sure there will be more , it's just in the odds.
the more people who install it the more problems will surface

Actually there are. You can download them from the CH Website. That might be the issue. Generic drivers aren't always the best.

Specifically.. you don't need drivers for CH products as they're HID's (PnP YES but more specific.. HID's). If you want to take advantage of the additional features offered by CH or you have multiple CH devices installed and want them to work in a certain way.. then yes, get the latest CH drivers. Otherwise, most of what you can achieve can be done via FSUIPC.. though not all

Oh no  not another product with online activation, was rather hoping that M$ were goign to realise what an inconvenience and annoyance product activation is and get rid of it. Years ago, if I had a problem, I could just backup my data, format, reinstall the OS and all the software, but now its so much more hassle I have to get by pretty much until I build a new machine, which in my case, will be running Linux next time

Btw, for anyone fed up with FSX already (I cant say I have tried it personally), I might mention that I am considering coding my own flight simulator. Not that the graphics will be any better (or that there will even be any graphics in the first place, but I am just thinking of an excercise in trying to get the basic phyiscs roughly right.
