I too can vouch for Acer. I've been using the 17" AL1721 for years now and it's never shown one dead pixel. I had one power related fault with it within the first 12 months and after Dabs let me down on customer service (one of many times it seems) I contacted Acer and they sent a courier to collect the next day. It came back from their service depot in Ireland within a week all shiny and fixed.AndyG wrote:Well, my TFT died on Saturday night, so I found myself in the position o having to get a replacement....fast!! As I use my PC for work stuff as well as simming etc it was a case of get out to the high street and see what was available.
So I am now using an Acer AL1914W 19" widescreen TFT purchased for the princely sum of £139.99 from Argos, which is significantly less than I paid for my original 14" TFT when I bought it 4 years ago. Nary a dead pixel, and running at a resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels!!!

Well..
The Xerox 19" widescreen was installed on the daughters PC yesterday and I'm not 100% struck with it. The daughter is though and that's the important thing. Despite farting around with the settings (some with no visible change!) it doesn't look as crisp and sharp as the AG 17" I have though in all honesty, I'm finding it hard to build up the motivation to pursue any possible problem. I suppose you have to take into consideration that the card running it is an old GF3 Ti300 (or was that 200) so it's not having the best chance although this card has enough poke to melt the TFT!!
Never mind.. I don't have to sit and look at it

Hi Guys
John
2d panels get stretched sideways and can look a little odd but everything else looks brilliant.
But i'm slowly moving over to VC flying as that is what i am now expected to build and i rarely fly anyone elses models other than the CBFS aircraft due to the 24/7 development of new stuff (seems 24/7 anyway  )
I can't post any screenies as they will be too big for the 800 wide rule.
FS has no problem with widescreen anyway and the 2d panels are the only problem.
Tried R Factor. Medal Of Honour, Brothers in Arms etc & DVD's are the bizzo.
no regrets on the widescreen here as i no longer need the AA set to 8x now that i have a 1680 pixel wide display so my framerate went up 25% from 1280 x 1024 with 8xAA 4xAF
Regards
Rick

Hi CB..
I have a GT6600 card sat in its box doing nothing so I may lob that in at some point
She now tells me that her DVD drive is kaput towit I asked her for £20 and I'd put a new burner in for her. She didn't like that idea much and asked for her £20 back! Kids!!!!!!!!

Echoing Rick's comments, FS9 at 1440 x 900 is superb, bar the little 2d panel problem (and I'm sure I can find a hack for that eventually). Mind you, with that much screen VC flying becomes a much more realistic prospect anyway.
Like Rick, screenies aren't an option, which is a pity as the field of vision is nothing less than awesome. As for performance, I was getting 20+ at Heathrow Pro with pretty much everything maxed out; bearing in mind that my rig is by no means cutting edge (Skt 754 AMD 3000+, FX5900 Ultra, 2 GB ram) I'm pretty impressed!

Okey doke, quick 'widescreen in FS9' update. I found some very useful sites dealing with widescreen gaming:

The bad news is that there doesn't seem to be an easy way to solve the stretched 2D panel problem, apart from dragging the panel image in at one side to correct the problem; this does leave you with an interesting black rectangle at the right hand side of your screen, but I've found that this is just the right size and shape to accommodate the average radio stack!
The forum listed above is especially useful, with solutions/hacks for a wide variety of games. Oh, and btw, CFS3 looks awesome at 1440 x 900.

Finally joined the widescreen brigade when the on/off switch on my trusty 22" CRT came off in me hand! (honest Guv). Went for the Samsung 205BW on Rick's recommendation (thank you!) and am very impressed so far, although it seems a tad bright. Any recommendations on screen settings Rick?
