Cust Service indeed. It's nothing short of shocking.

The product may be good but if you get a problem, you've had it.

Dave,

Dabs has got a few tfts reasonably priced

http://www.dabs.com/productlist.aspx?&N ... PageMode=1

I use Dabs quite a lot - very good service.

Some wisdom on the straighteners - DON'T buy cheap ones as they're not very good. :tuttut: My 14-going-on-15 daughter gave me a tutorial on this which I haven't forgot .....

Also, they cook the carpet, even after a few seconds - be prepared for more expense ..........

Thanks for that Degsy

I threw caution to the wind and ordered the Xerox 19" from Microdirect this morning so we'll see how it looks come judgement day. I've no idea what Xerox tft's are like.. my only experience with the name was/is for photocopiers but I know she's one of these kid's that has thousands of MSN windows open so went for the larger monitor. I've been tempted by others but in the end.. the size thing one the day.

Her mum is out buying the hair straightner as I type so at least she'll have one present she likes even if this tft turns out to be a duffer!!

Will let you all know what I think next week when I've plugged it in and seen how many dead pixels there are on it!!

Dave,

Make sure she keeps the staighteners away from the screen - these females and their multi-tasking - one touch with that heat ....

Well, my TFT died on Saturday night, so I found myself in the position o having to get a replacement....fast!! As I use my PC for work stuff as well as simming etc it was a case of get out to the high street and see what was available.

So I am now using an Acer AL1914W 19" widescreen TFT purchased for the princely sum of £139.99 from Argos, which is significantly less than I paid for my original 14" TFT when I bought it 4 years ago. Nary a dead pixel, and running at a resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels!!!

OK guys,

I may have to go down the TFT route sooner than expected. I do like the AG Neovo stuff. But, what should I be looking for in terms of spec? eg. response times etc?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Ben,

You probably remember well when I got the AG F-417 (not that long ago) and it already has 3 dead pixels. Picture's great but I'm unsure about it's longevity

Much of the gumf that is spouted about TFT's I don't understand either so perhaps one of the guys could decode the jargon for us

What I have seen is that the cheaper the TFT, the more power it consumes. Dunno if this would be a factor?? Of the first three that CB suggested, the first is rated at 40w.. the second at 35w and the third at 30w. Cheaper monitors seem to have a speed time of around 8ms.. the more expensive are 4ms. That just about sums up my total TFT knowlege.. not a lot there is there!

Look at the power figures as Dave has stated (if that bothers you), pixel response time and contrast ratio.
At least thats what I look at.

OcUK have a monitor section within the forum here

Hi Guys

Went to PC World (spit!)

Bought a Samsung SyncMaster 205BW for myself as my Eizo is dying again.

£209 including VAT !

works superbly and everything looks superb at 1680 x 1050 widescreen now.
sharp as a razor and beautiful contrast.
looks as good as the Eizo 19" i payed £1600 for 5 years ago (i bought 2 but my dad borrowed one permanently :worried: )

I shopped around but could not find it or similar big name 20" widescreen.

I have another early Samsung 15" tft i bought probably 6 years ago which still works as good as the day i bought it.

Regards
Rick

Hi Rick,

I'd been wondering about widescreen monitors as more seem to be appearring these days. I've been put off as I thought that flight sim would have a strange stretched appearance about it especially in cockpit. Whats your experience like so far ?
