Airfix 1/48 Buccaneer S2, S2C, S2D, S50 Kit.

Post by VC10 »

Am I missing something, or is this the reason for Airfix's demise?

After paying for it in advance, I just collected the above kit before it disappears before God knows how long for £24.99. When I opened the box I found what appears to be two kits & two sets of instructions inside!

I was kicking myself when I saw a Buccaneer kit go on e-bay for £16.95 after I had paid for mine, but then again, a kit with what appears to have the same contents as mine was up at £46 last time I looked

From what I heard the french people who box the kits up made a bit of a cock-up on the first batch of a few hundred kits, the problem was fixed on the later ones.

That makes sense James. One set of instructions is titled as above, while the other just says S2B

The kits in question were boxed some three years ago and not enough were sent out to have caused much of a loss. In fact, internet sales of the kit were increased by those hoping to get the free extra kit!
I have become, comfortably numb.

I was talking to the proprieter of the Dorking Models (http://www.dorkingmodels.com) this morning and he said that the two kits was a deliberate move by Airfix, but they didn't publise it very well.

If you don't kow Dorking Models it is a traditional model shop with kits piled from floor to ceiling. The owner gets a mention in Arthur Wards' book about Airfix.

Thank you for the steer to Dorking Models - tried it and found a very user friendly on-line shop. Got myself the Airfix Vulcan kit that has vanished from the shops north of the border.

Now all I need is time to sit down and make up my long planned diorama of the 3 V bombers.

Anyway, thanks again - great steer.

Regards

Allan
