There you go. All figures provided to be used at users risk and are not meant to be the defacto for the aircraft listed. They're a basic guide only and are subject to all the usual outside influences such as weight e t c. Have fun and don't run out of gas

TVM Dave - comparing your Viscount figures to my last flight they are within 100kgs - bearing in mind FSN doesn't account for taxi fuel I'd say you've got 'em pretty close!

Thanks again,

Well I can certainly see the attraction of FSNav, but I'm not sure it'll suit me.

The most frustrating thing is that the info I'm most interested in doesn't seem to be available in the cut down 'in cockpit' display.
I want the flight plan details list that you see top right in the big display.
Maybe I'm missing something. If it's possible, can someone let me know.
Having that would match what I do now, without needing to print out routes & airport charts. Could be just what I need.

The only other moan is that the climb/descent rate thing just doesn't match how I fly.
I'm always climbing to IAS & RPM settings, rather than climb rate.
And for descent I use '3 degree profile' charts to get the start point & variable descent rates depending on ground speed.

The map is very good, but I've already found myself using it as a far superior version of the GPS. I know you don't have to use it like that, but it's hard not to look.
It's certainly a quality bit of kit, but I think it could take away the DIY element that I quite enjoy. It's fun getting there from a list of numbers & whatever instruments the model has.
I do like that you can turn off the 'GPS' aeroplane marker & use it like a static map.

So if only I could get the info I want. Fingers crossed I'm being thick & just missed it.
This is the sort of info I use now & what I'd like to see in the cockpit view. VOR/NDB frequencies, track & distance:-

Hi Dave,

I've got dual monitor set-up. By default when you CTRL +F9 to reduce the window it just displays the map. The plan info can be dragged down from the top and then you can move the bottom up to lose that map. Basically manipulate it as you like. The co-ordinates aren't given on the FSNav plan bt am not sure if you'd use those anyway? Cockpit view on left monitor, rest of junk on right. It's in windowed mode at the moment but I always fly fullscreen. Once you have the window sized as you want, toggle F9 will hide/show it as you last left it.

Excellent John.
Took a bit of trial and error, but I now see how the display inside the reduced display can be dragged around.
It will let you drag the colums too, so it just shows what you want.
No I don't need the coordinates.

That will do me then.
That's my printed plan method made easier, with a detailed map of the area + beacons & frequencies just a click away.

Thanks very much chaps.

Hi DM!!

Sri I couldn't get back earlier but John has explained and illustrated that the important bits can be got at

There is a tutorial available on the FSNav website giving instructions on how to make your own Sids and Stars from approach/departure plates. I would certainly take the time to trawl through it's pages as the ones available off FSNav are not always.. err.. suitable  They are all made by users anyway so the FSNav team can't take the blame  As PaulGa said to me.. rubbish in.. rubbish out

If you fancy doing AAR flights similar to the one we did, you can simulate it pretty well using FSNav's hold function. You basically make your flightplan and add a hold where you want the racetrack to be. You have control over every aspect of the hold (length of track, width of track) and having tried it.. its a lot of fun. Great if you have 2 pc's so you can nip up from Leuchars in an F3 on one pc and fly the C1K on the other. A hold is also handy if you feel the need to pee but you have to have inserted it prior to loading the plan!

EDIT:.. Colin, glad to hear the Viscount numbers were ok for you. I've put a lot of hours in on the Viscount and actually rely on those figures. Some of them will include taxi fuel for both ends while others may not. I can't remember which they are now but whatever, you shouldn't be dropped short if you've loaded your contingency fuel

Well I just did a CBFS Trident 2 flight to Kastrup with FSNav, but still flying how I want to - it was great.

Had my list of numbers to check against & used the map as just a map, switched the little aeroplane off so it wasn't like a GPS.
Even managed to set a descent rate that put the mark in just the right place in the plan for a 3 degree descent.

And it has a major advantage over my old method because the map now gives access to all these off route beacons as well.
I can get a position by tuning the nearest off route beacon if there's no other signals.

I'm going to keep using it.

Thanks

Now.. the difficult bit is explaining the second TFT to the 'better half' :worried:
