Regretfully, I'm scrapping the project - too many mapping issues to make it worthwhile. A shame though as she looked promising. I'll save the work for a later model release (hint hint Andy!). Here's how she looked air-tested:

Hawker Seahawk

Post by hobby »

Sorry to see that the Seahawk repaint has been scrapped, for it gave a sight of what may be.

The best Hawker Seahawk was by Shigeru Tanaka but the model does not appear when the acft is selected in Fs9. I emailed the designer asking him to re-issue his model for Fs9 - I do not know the complexities of doing so - no reply was received.

We must perforce wait for Andy G, or another designer, to produce a model of this very beautiful truly classic British aircraft.

I'm working on it, I'm working on it!

The frustration is that some superb Seahawks have been made for the sim SFP1 which, I believe, could possibly be ported into FS9 via Gmax; but all attempts to contact the team behind them has been totally futile!

I know what you mean, Andy - it is a damn shame we can't get hold of a SFP1 sea hawk for FS - have you contacted the builder on the Bunyap site? http://www.bunyap2w1.com/ . Don't worry about not having the time to build one - I know all too well how the real world gets in the way sometimes. I've been lucky for a few months now with my baby daughter sleeping from 8 onwards at night, which has given me some free time again.
Hobby made a good point about the Shigeru model, hopefully he will get a reply someday and we can use that one.
So we will not say project 'scrapped', rather 'on-hold' for now. At least this one gave us a taste of the good things to come - its criminal that the FS9+ community does not have a good Sea Hawk, especially CBFS pilots.

Shigeru Tanaka's web site says:

"So you may not re-distribute or re-upload them to other web sites, whether or not through modifying the contents thereof, nor use them in a commercial cd-rom collection or magazine articles or private homepage or other mass media, without the author's explicit written consent in advance."

I have read previous comments to suggest the consent is not likely to be forthcoming.

Rob 'Bunyap' McCray ([email protected]) is selling Seahawk 3D max models on Turbosquid so he is obviously hoping to make money from them.

Well, at least we know what we're dealing with now. Thanks for looking into it, Ian. So the spotlight falls to Andy to raise the freeware flag whenever he has the time. I'm sure we all have plenty of other projects to do in the meantime so no pressure mate.

Oh, b****r!

I had just finished adding cannon effects to it, THEN noticed the "cancellation." Spat me dummy out and binned it from my HD.

Ne'er mind, I am sure Andy will produce the goods as and when time permits.

B****r indeed! Keep those effects close to hand though Graham, as between you and Hobby, we'll need them adding to the next Sea Hawk. Speaking of which, anyone know what kind of cannon they were? 4x Hispano or something else? I take my hat off to you cannon-aligners, as far as I'm concerned its a black art and far too tricky my my likes - God bless you, sirs.

I cannot lay claim to being a cannon guru, just place the blighters. In fact it was "Hobby" who supplied the gear from the Canberra he modified. Must say though, all my fighters are now equipped for trouble.

As I have posted before, woe betide the controller who tells me to go around.
