Very nice to look at, but dangerous to go aboard. The first time I went on G-DMCA (by that time it was just a fwd fuse section) the damn thing nearly killed me... I was entering through the av-bay door though :worried:

Nice shot, spent many an hour on the aircraft when I used to dispatch it! A classic but a bag of c@#p! The amount of delays it caused was incredible! Ah well, still have many fond memories. The last job of the night shift was to meet it inbound from Sanford Orlando, and yes, it was always late!

Not a lot of room down the side of that avionics rack is there!! Or to climb into the flt-deck if the jumpseat isn't moved. BTW, From the avionics bay it's possible to climb up behind the F.E.s panel. Gave me a shock one night, sitting (I thought) alone on the flt-deck when a voice said 'boo!' turned out to be a ground engineer who was working on the back of the panel, when I turned round his face was where the fuel gauge panel would've been, wish I'd got a pic

There was (perhaps still is?) a rope someone had thoughtfully attached to aid clambering up from the av bay into the cockpit (along with the footholds attached to the skin/frame (cant remember exactly).

Basically what happened to me was that the two guys I was with had already got aboard (via this route) with no probs. I am 5'6" with short legs and a long back... therefore I found it very hard to haul myself up and in. This problem was made worse by the fact that the door kept sliding back. On one occasion I managed to stop it with my foot but on the last occasion it was coming back down with some velocity and I just got myself inside before it slammed shut beneath me... another 0.5 seconds and I'd probably be about 2' 6" now
