I can remember a Contellation ditching short of Shannon in I think the sixties ran out of fuel:sad:
There were many others but I remeber that one at the time

Ah ok I was'nt aware.

Not far from the coast?Has anything ever ditched mid-Atlantic? I bet rescue op's would be a nightmare! :think:

I remeber a PAN AM Stratocruiser having to ditch in the Pacific, I think it was the Pacific
It found a boat and ditched alongside...........if you can stay up for a bit that would be an option.
Obviously if the aircraft is damaged as props and even whole engines used to come off you might just have to put it down and take a chance.

Not sure Leif....I know it landed intact and at least intially didn't sink.
If there are no holes punched in it and the doors are shut....being and airtight pressure fuse it would in therory not sink, not for a long while.

Eddie, if the cabin crew went white.......Hate to think of what colour the pilots were left in!!!Last year on a flight to the Dominican Republic we suffered some of the most violent turbulence I have ever known. I watched as the Cabin crew went white!


I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.
