Is this a cunning plan I see developing??

DanKH is developing a neat bit of kit in 'C' which I can't mention here but I've no idea what the client software is compiled with so that bit of info could be as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike  IF the client is only to be down for a week at most, it's unlikely he could knock something up in that time anyway. For the future.. well, that's a different thing

Disasters have to be expected.
It's hard to backup when you're not around. Being that he was having his finals in school (to graduate) and getting a job, it's understandable. Also, (being that he's not been around the VA world all that long) it's understandible that he'd be naive that there are people in our hobby that are less than reputable people out there.

Wasn't having a go Chris. I know we've been bitten a couple of times on the old backup front. It IS one of those thinks that you don't think about until its too late, but I'm sure he'll get it sorted.

Hi, I might dream something up......If David's able to set up the database part of it (might want to do SQL?) All it would take is a client that downloads data and shoves it in to the database....DM could do the rest, right? ;-)

David: We might knock a thing up....PM me if you're interested....

Konny said in the thread on the FlyNET forum that he had been unable to get a MySQL function to work that would automatically backup the database. I think it was more an issue of time than actual problems though - again, due to his real-world commitments.

Ben, David I think it sound like a splendid idea, I'll open up my Visual Studio this evening, and see if I can get a client build up.... the data needed for building up the database would be appreciated, although some are obvious....please feel free to send me any comments....I'll be doing it in C# probably in .NET 2.0....

Hi Leif,

I think what you mentioned some time ago (and what many of us here considered) may now be a step closer.

CT.. forgive me mate but I still think that no backup for 3months is lamentable. Real World or not, everyone MUST have a few hours per month to do ONE backup. Ben manages it here and he works damned hard, often 7days a week

Does the host not do automatic backups.

I know that for cbfiles I can pick backups of files & databases which are two hours, two days or two weeks old and they are automatically reloaded. That covers most problems quite well.
