DC3 Routes

Post by DaveB »

Hi John,

Is there any chance of getting some additional routes for the DC3 from Jersey

Norwich is just a tad boring and having had a flight bugout 2 miles from the threshold, I'm not that keen on wasting another 2hrs. I bit the bullet.. tried it again and just landed (0235) but I honestly don't fancy the trip back (though I'll do it of course)

I believe there were other locations flown by the DC3's from Jersey including destinations in France so something a little less arduous (read local) would be most welcome

Btw.. the error I got on the first flight also envoked an error FlyNET has caused an error in flightsim.. I sent the error report though at this stage in the game.. nothing will be done about it.

You're pretty safe to say anywhere that Heralds, 748 and Viscounts etc went from Jersey to...Daks did as well

Renne, Dinard and LBG in France were regulars.

Dinard Guernsey as well

In addition to the trunks

Jersey Porstmouth
Guernsy Portsmouth

Portsmouth-Sandow IoW

Jersey-Northolt
Guernsey Northolt
Jersey-Staverton
Guernsey-Staverton
Jersey-Cambridge
Jersey-Southend
Guernsey-Southend.

I can research if you want..but I think there is enough information there especially when the major rotes are added.

Burnaston was used before Castle Donnington/EMA and of cousre Morton used Croydon as it's UK base.

It's late and my brain cell aches....but off the top of my head these airlines operated to Jersey.........probably others but I forget for a minute.

So that will give more clues......................

Air Anglia
Air Atlantique
BEA
BKS
British Island Airways
British Midland
British United
British United Island Airways
Cambrian
Channel Airways
Crewsair
Dan Air
Derby Airways
Intra
Jersey Airlines
Kestrel International
Morton Air Services
Olly Air Services
Rig Air
Silver City
Skyways
South West Aviation
Starways

Olley Air Services was Croydon based and was taken over by Mortons

BKS was formed by four ex directors of Crewsair who received a Dakota as payment for their share.....BKS than went on the squeeze and swallow Crewsair

Rig Air was on eof the companies that merged to form Air Anglia.

The rest is straightforward...I think

Anyway..........should be able to get Dave another route

Hi Dave,

Yep, more DC3 routes will be coming as well as other routes for the rest of the fleet aircraft types.

Hi Garry,

Quality info as usual, thanks.

Hi Guy's..

Brilliant!! There's little incentive to take the Dak's out of Jersey at the mo with the current destination route akin to driving up the M6 (off the M1 Northbound)... v e r y b o r i n g  Some very nice little runs to be had out of that lot Garry.. not least of all Pompey and the French destinations

Do you know if the Vikings were used on any of these Garry (or the Ambassadors for that matter)?? Generally, the Viking's took DC3 routes.. the Ambassador took the Viking routes and the Viscount took the Ambassador routes. That's a rather large generalisation I know and more specific to certain operators, not all of them

Hi Dave

Forgot Autair

Vikings wern't so common

Chennel certainly used them on the Gurney Southend and Jersey Southend.

I did do a list of Vikings but after only getting as far as BEA there was a lot done. I left the post BEA (Alphabetical list), for the time being.

I can have another look if you want, but the bulk of Viking ops were before my time, so I can't rely on memory

Hi Dave

The reason I stopped at BEA was there were by then loads

There is more to wade through but a lot of it will repeat and many airlines flew the same routes.

But if you need more.....say the wotd and I will squeeze out what I can

No problem at all,

Garry.. a quick question for you..

Do you know if any Daks would have been based at Gue or would they have either come in from Jer or the mainland?? We have 4 based at Jer at the mo which on the face of it, seems a bit excessive (it does to me as we're a little thin on DC3 pilots on the VA) Thing is, 4 is about your base minimum of any aircraft as with 2 on ops (perish the thought) you need two as standby. Interested to know if there were any permanently on Gue anyway

Dave

The CI Daks would have been BEA CI and Jersey Airlines Etc and would be based in Jersey or the mainland for GCI services then

There would have been night stops I think but that would not classed as based and only turn arround maintenace or emergency repair was carried out in GCI.

Most of the BEA would have been Northolt based for BEA and Jersey for Jersey Airlines. Mortons were Croydon later Gatwick and when all theat went into BUIA it was still a Jersey or UK centered operation.

SO even with the nightstopping in GCI you could at best say ther was at least one of the type 'based' but no particular aircraft..if you follow.

In other word even GCI based operations would have been operated by an aircraft likely to change when it got to the other end each time.
