Oh! You know me so well!

But in a way, you're right. With 12 First class seats and 99 economy, it had a really cosy, intimate atmosphere. Same amount of crew as the Super so everything was more relaxed. The cabin looked even smaller because the main door was forward of the wing on the left side. So instead of seats all the way up there was a divider and doorway with a double crew seat and a curtain. Nice little rest area. Also the compact size and less weight meant that the performance was better.

So it all adds up to a feel-good factor. We always preferred to see a Standard arriving rather than a Super so that's why it's my favourite

To contribute - tho' restricted to top three - would be an eclectic -
- Britannia (so nice to fly in)
- Sea Vixen. An object of beauty
- EE Lightning. Awesome.

Now if we were allowed - I would then find confirmed places for - The VC10, Bucc', TSR2, Concorde, Viscount.

Oe-er the VC10 is level pegging with the Frightening now. Not an American machine even on the horizon.

Wonder what Mr Trott's selection will be?

No let me guess..

1. Boeing ...........?

2. Douglas ..........?

3. Lockheed .........?

Fill in the blanks Chris! :poke:

Well, ye'd be wrong on all 3 counts. In no particular order:

1) Avro Vulcan - nothing more amazing than that massive delta-winged beast, not only that but it was the Vulcan which inspired Concorde's wing plan and tested its engines.

2) Vought F4U Corsair - first aircraft to exceed 400mph in level flight, beautiful design that is pure simplicity in execution.

3) McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle - first aircraft with a thrust-to-weight ration of greater than 1:1, first true air superiority fighter, and the progenetor of the awsome F-15E Strike Eagle, the best precision strike fighter in the world.

I prefer the Standard VC10 over the Super, purely on aesthetics, as the tail fin looks just the right size on the shorter fuselage - nice and big (but not too big) making the whole thing exactly the right proportions!

Thinking it about it again, and just watching aircraft land, I am amazed at all machines that fly. I am so desperate to start flying again, that I would fly any machine given the chance.
Onwards and Upwards!!!!!!!!

Jetty!
If God had of meant us to fly, he would have given us wings! He did, it's called an aeroplane!
