Post by blanston12 »

Just got this link from a friend, unfortunalty have no information on the actual incident but to me it looks like they stalled just before landing.

A far as I can recall that was during protoype tests and it was deliberate..but it shouldn't have failed.

Yes, that was the heavy landing tests at Edwards AFB. As a result, the plane was repaired and the spine of the aircraft strengthened.

Incidentally, that was the second Douglas aircraft to have done that. One of the DC-8 prototypes (Ship 3 or Ship 4 if I remember correctly) broke its back in similarly spectacular fashion during heavy landing tests as well. That aircraft was also repaired and was in fact delivered to a customer and served over 30 years in service without any further issues.

I've seen it before as well but in a better quality
it really amazing how the energy rippled through
fuselage. at one point it was bowed
how about that landing gear
it took quite a pounding as well

There is a slightly better quality version here http://www.alexisparkinn.com/aviation_videos.htm about 3/4 of the way down. The page link is "Hard Landing".

The link [above] was posted on this site last week sometime if I recall correctly- some great accident footage (but sadly some of it leading to death), but plenty of unbelieveable - did they really do that stuff.

Found another landing video last night:

Dont think the airline is BA, thoguh I cant rightly identify what it is either. This looks so silly, I wonder if it has been faked or at best doctored?

Concur Dan

It's a fake made for a lager company showing the rival countries football team arriving...or something like that.
