Failing to fly booked flights

Post by RAF_Quantum »

Hi Guys,

I've noticed quite a few pilots book flights some time in advance of their intention to fly and on occasion the flights are not flown within 24 hours. With the fleet numbers as they are and the policy with regard chosing an aircraft there should be no real need to book a flight until you are actually ready to fly.

Having a booked flight expire on you has no detremental effect on the VA but it WILL slowly erode your personal balance if personal circumstances mean you miss the time window of your booking.

John,

I flew a short Dove repositioning flight from EGKK-EGHH the day before yesterday and my Internet connection went down so the Flynet client didn't report the flight. I saw a dialogue box telling me to post a file somewhere but didn't register full details so I posted the flight log file on the Flynet forum problems section... I had a reply from another member and he gave an e-mail address for the administrators, so I sent it to them last night...

In the meanwhile the website shows the flight as expired and I've been charged.

Have I missed something? Or is it just a waiting game until this gets corrected by someone from Flynet?

Hi Dom,

The response from the admins should be pretty prompt, but it depends on the timescale from when you booked the flight. If you flew it at the 23rd hour and then sent the report you'd probably get charged before the flight got logged. If there's a problem with your own internet connection that's usually when you get the response to send the report manually as the client can't establish the connection. If the your internet connection is OK but the FlyNET site is down you can select park brake and then pause the game and then go and make a cuppa or something and wait for the site comes back online. I believe the client will keep trying until it gets through as long as it has an internet connection. Fortunately it was the Dove you were flying so the charge will be minimal as the compensation is for 11 pax only, better than paying for a Super VC10 load of pax

Should it happen again, another possible solution, if it is for just a short flight, is to ignore the request to send the report and just fly the flight again.

Thanks John. I only booked the flight about a minute before flying it but I'll certainly remember the other options you suggest if it happens again...

Cheers, Dom

On the subject of missed flights.. as anyone had any probs with Toby's latest incarnation of Southampton?? I worked out I had enough time spare before starting work to fly the DH89 from Guernsey to Soton so set off on my jolly way. Landed and was just about to turn off the runway when I got a CTD :curse: My flight was immediately reset

I'll get back to it later John but in the meantime.. I'm not best pleased with Southampton!! It has now been removed to be replaced by the UK2000 version.. a little more boring but stable

John,

Just so you know, three days have passed since I sent the flight log to the Flynet admin e-mail address I was given in my forum post (their forum) and no reply from anyone there. I'm still showing at Gatwick so I'm going to pretend it never happened  and start again!

Don't know if this is normal though - just for your information...
