Doesn't work too well on Vista either! Of course, thats a Beta release too, and FSX apparently isn't optimised for it yet...

I got 30-odd FPS over the sea, and was quite impressed until it dropped to 8 at the airport.

Does anybody know how to turn off the crappy head-moving 'feature'?

I hate the music when getting the aeroplanes.........very game like as opposed to simulation like.

Go to n:\documents and settings\your name\application data\microsoft\fsx and look for the camera.cfg.

In there look in the virtual cockpit section and look for the line Momentumeffect = , type No this will turn off the nodding dog head mode in virtual cockpit, check out all the other functions as well for the camera views like pan rates and float options.

Enjoy

There's an option for that in the sound setup section. I believe there's a hotkey for it too, but I don't know what that is.

On the plus side, the reflections on the MS aircraft often look superb.
The 1-11 seems to perform reasonably close to FS9.
Trident works pretty well Dave

They've been so busy making a Game, that they forgot to include a simulation.

Fancy visual effects are all well and good, but at the expense of the flying side, it seems to have gone backwards, all in all very disappointing.

To check out the reflections, I landed the floatplane on the sea, it produced a really nice if a little overdone effect reflecting on the moving water, but it was spoilt by the fixed shadow model, which just looks weird.

If this demo is a recent beta build, then October seems a bit too ambitious, maybe they meant 2007 :dunno:

FS9 is going to be hard to beat, even with all its faults, but with the 3rd party add-ons so evolved these days, I would have expected M$ to have to do more than what we're seeing here.

That's good to hear Peter.
I've not had a look at any of the others. Says a lot really, I'd have been on it all the time if I'd have found it fun.
As mentioned above, it also takes a depressing amount of time to load.

Had a quick go on it today & it did seem a lot better, until I gained some height - the FPS seems terrible higher up.
I'm sure there are settings tweaks that can be done to make the final thing acceptable, but I'm not excited by it at all.
I put all the sliders maxed out last night for a laugh, my PC moved the picture once. An amazing 1 FPM.

Also got the problem where the fence makes the buildings behind vanish.

Hi DM

That fence problem is also on FS 9

They haven't learnt much.

BTW Dave when I ran the 1-11 the other day the smoke was off to the left side of the aircraft and not very strong. Don't know it it was just that load (miss-load), but haven't tried it again since.
