Last airworthy Viscount

Hi all,

Some may remember a thread of mine last year relating to the last surviving airworthy Viscount in the world.

The aircraft was operated by Pegasus Airlines based somewhere in the Congo, the reg is 3D-PFI. The aircraft is an ex BAF, 802 series machine I believe.

Its now some months on and I still am struggling to find anything out about the aircraft on the net apart from scant details on the ATDB database which provide two or three photos and state the aircrafts status as 'active'.

Anyone else know anything about it and whether she is still flying?

Can't remember off hand Edie but it has movced on to someone who appear to be still flying it and another Viscount as well.

Would love to know. I can see myself buying a ticket to the Congo just to see it flying, if I ever found out where she was!!

I'll see if I can find it.

Can't think off hand what made me think one of them was this one but I think it is.

Also there is that US museum one being made airworthy if not already, N7471 in Capital livery although it wasn't a Capital machine.

I think there are four airworthy or potential but only one or two actually flying.

BTW there are apparantly 26 airworthy One-Elevens.

Blimey I never knew that! :shock:

I thought the Pegasus machine was the last survivor.

And thats quite a handful of one-elevens although I thought there were more than that capable of flying. :sad:

Hi Eddie

The Pegasus was the only one flying, but there were some in store.

The four that I know about are the ex Pegasus and the one that is listed along with that.

Also there is another airworthy in store in Africa that has not as far as is known flown for a year or so but could..and the American museum one.

Don't forget the Bristol 170 and The Britannia both became extinct and then flew again briefly.

So down is not really out.

But having said that, the 'Pegasus' one is still the only one I could say is definately, or appears to be flying.

I'll see what I can find out.

I haven't found what I was looking for...but it appears Global Airways of Swaziland were still using the onetime G-APEY up to recently...like reported still in use 2005, not confirmed, so that makes two last year, perhaps.

It's a job to know what airworthy means, well capable of flight but you could have a dozen airworthy but that doesn't mean any will ever fly

Contrary you could have dozen wrecks and that doesn't stop someone knocking up a couple of flyers from the bits.

Those 26 One-Eleven that are airworthy contain some that are believed that will never fly again........on top of that the are a few in store that could quite easily be returned to flight but unlikely ever will.

So I am trying to find out how many Viscounts if any are actually flying.

I know I read it somewhere in the last week or so. :think:

Flight international's aircraft survey earlier this year listed a few Viscounts as still flying. I'll try and dig out the info.

The only confirm still is the Pegasus last year.

The MAAM project is still ongoing so that one not yet.
