I'm getting that and I guess we all are

A similar thing happen a while ago

It always posts despite the apparent error and the only thing "wrong" is you own post shows as unread...but that's nothing

I am sure it is still an ongoing situation and Ben will be attending to it when he has time but at least it works and works well.

I think its on threads where someone has enabled email messaging when someone replies to it or something like that. Ben said he had disabled the SMTP to prevent emails being sent out for example when people receive PM's. I know some boards and forums work off messages being 'sent to the board as emails' but I dont think thats how phpBB works  This said I'm not an expert scripter/coder so I may be wrong!

Whether you use it or not, the message will appear. Ben has turned off the email alerts for thread updates and private messages.

Yes, it would occur if anyone had an email alert for a thread as in the normal course of things, the fact that anyone had posted on such a thread would cause the code to attempt to generate an email message to notify that person or persons and you, as the poster, would receive the error message that it had failed to to so.
