Would there be any interest in......

Post by Tom Everitt AFG »

Hi all,

Just thinking of some ideas for new things for Classic Flight to do and would like to sound one of them out here.

We will very shortly be able to operate our Devon A-B (Currently we can only do A-A pleasure flights) and something we have considered for some time is offering a series of flights to air museums around the country.

Duxford is an obvious candidate, and I would like to know if anyone here would consider booking a weekend tour which included a return flight from Coventry to Duxford on the Devon, a behind the scenes tour of The Fighter Collection, ARCO, HFC, the Imperial War museum etc, and an evening talk on a classic aviation subject by someone in the business at your overnight accomodation. This is all purely speculative right now, but I think it has the potential to be quite popular

I suspect you'd be looking at around £250 for the whole package, and I'm wondering if that sounds too expensive and would put too many people off or if people would be prepared to pay that for a decent weekend filled with classic aviation action! So, what do people think?

If anyone has any other ideas about what we could do with the aircraft at CF, then please let me know!!

Cheers,

Tom

Tom, overall that appears to be an interesting and well thought out programme and one that I would..... if my financial circumstances allowed.......certainly be interested in...........but unfortunately................£££££

I agree with Nigel, Tom. It sounds a great way to spend a weekend  Similar trips are run by other companies who specialise in this sort of thing (a maritime weekend spent in and around Portsmouth and Southampton is one that springs to mind) but one of the major drawbacks for me is that I don't get weekends off

I'm sure there's a market for it though mate so good luck

Nice idea, only I'm sure I would be denied permision by the long legged General. She can find an awful lot of frock shops for that kind of money.

P.S. Tom could always organise a weekend shopping trip for the wives.

Then we'd all have a nice weekend.

It does sound like a great idea Tom, and something I would consider for a treat. Just a thought, but what might be nice would be Duxford one day and somewhere else the next? Appreciate that would add and extra flight, but would make the experience quite unique. If a second museum was considered it would have to compliment Duxford.

One Idea might be to do Duxford on say the Saturday, and then fly to an event somewhere else for the sunday... an airshow somewhere perhaps. That way the A/C could also be used to generate revenue while at the show?

Just some more thoughts matey.

That’s a good idea Ben. Perhaps somewhere like Cosford would make a nice complement to Duxford, and the cost probably wouldn't increase that much - I suspect about by about £50pp. I also like the idea of doing Duxford one day, then an airshow the next - something defiantly worth exploring!

Thanks for the feedback gents

Tom.

Tom,

That sounds like it would be an outstanding weekend. I particularly like the idea of behind the scenes tours of Duxford and the various companies based there.

What would be the flight time from Coventry to Duxford? Also would it be possible for the flight plan to include few flypasts of aviation sites on route to allow for some aerial photograph (Bruntingthorpe?(I’m assuming, perhaps incorrectly, it’s roughly on route)) or even just a circuit and bump at Duxford before a full stop?

Possibly prohibitively expensive, unless somehow combined with a pre-planned flight for the second aircraft, but would it be possible to be escorted for part of the trip by another of the Classic Flights fantastic aircraft. This would allow for opportunity to try our hand at some air-air shots similar to those you’ve very kindly posted in the past. This may prove easier if, as has been suggested, one of the days included a trip to an airshow.

You mentioned you are considering ‘a series of flights to museums around the country’, other than Duxford which museums is it possible to fly into?

Finally, I’m afraid I’m not informed enough to know the differences between A-A and A-B operations. Is it some sort of certification or is it just referring to the start/finish points of the flight i.e. point A to point B (B being a different location to Coventry).

Sorry for the multitude of questions, but I’m really taken with the idea and very grateful to be in the privileged position to be allowed to offer feed back and suggestions.
