yes, yes, we're wheeling out the same old fare once more with a few new Canberra Mark 8 repaints. This time they are brought to you by Andy G, with a little input from myself, but these are his babies essentially, and kudos to him for getting these off the ground.
So we have two RAF 16 Squadron birds, and a IAF 5 Squadron version from the Congo UN intervention in the 60s.
The IAF bird is not technically British of course, but hey, what's the end of empire between friends. Still British-made iron. These will be available on my site around the weekend.
It is indeed a working gun pack on the Mark 8, but a Hispano 20mm cannon was used I believe rather than Aden. The good blokes over at Bharak Rakshak (an IAF site) informed me their Mark 8s only ever carried gun packs but not wing bombs on the Congo ops (being that the promised bombs from the UK never arrived!) so those screens are a tad inaccurate, but nevertheless, it looks cool.
If you want to get the gun pack working, you'll need to edit your config (there is an article in Developers forum).
Im going to show my ignorance..is that an Aden Gun pack on the IAF
aircraft????
Nice work BTW

Hi Leif (and Steve;who knows some of this already!)
The gunpack was made by Boulton and Paul, initially it was used in the interdictor B(I)6 which itself was a 'stopgap' model until B(I)8 came into service.
The gunpack of four 20mm Hispano Suiza cannons was fitted in the rear half of the bomb bay, each gun was provided with 525 rounds of ammunition, enough for fifty seconds of firing.
The trial airframe for the gunpack modification was B2 WJ565, which was later converted to a T17 and in which guise incidentally, was the first Canberra wot I worked on!

ps. Another Canberra site for Steve to check out........
nice one for the gun pack info, I didn't know the ammo capacity at all, so that was nice to read about. Les Bywaters rode in a Mark 8 I believe and testifies that there wasn't too much shudder during firing, but they were a bugger to fit. Did you ever fit one of these, Pete? Sounds like they were pretty heavy.
Incidentally, if anyone has any good pics of the gun pack (both fitted and unfitted) I'd love to see them. The recent book I bought by Bruce Halpenny shows a lovely shot of a Canberra on the production line with all possible armaments arrayed in front of it, including gun pack and ammo, so that's a starting point.
I took a quick look at the 213 Sqn site, and think the 'angry hornets' deserve a repaint or two. Now if only we could get Bill Holker or Paul Foster to add a gun pack to a Mark 6 model...
