CBFS VA Portsmouth available

Post by DaveB »

Hi fellow Oldies..

Pete Pitman has very graciously agreed to let the VA have his Portsmouth scenery which I have just posted in the 'New Releases - Members Only' forum.

It is (unfortunately) in one flavour only and that is UKVFR Photoscenery compatible. I don't know how much of a problem that will be for our overseas pilots but I reckon most of us UK-based folk will have it.

Please don't drip if you don't have UKVFRPhoto. I get the feeling Pete didn't really want to let it out into the public domain anyway and any gripes will enforce his gut feeling that he shouldn't have agreed!! It may be possible to use the airfield without UKVFR but, as the default UK coastline is so hopelessly wrong.. the airfield will not be in the correct place. By all means try it and see. The download is a mere 4k and will be down before you've taken your finger off the mouse button so you have little to lose.

All that is required is for John to have it included in the FlyNET database then it's routing sorted

I couldn't resist the challenge so I've done a quick and dirty fix to allow Portsmouth to be used with the default scenery.

Because of the inaccuracy of the coastline in the default scenery, I've had to alter the shape of the eastern boundary and southern tip of the airfield. The runways, however retain their original configuration, lengths and widths so VA operations should not be affected.

Hi Pete,

Excellent, thanks very much. Is this an alternative for those without VFR scenery or is it a replacement that will do for either?

Hi John,
It's a version specifically for those who do not have UKVFR scenery installed. To compensate for the inaccuracy of the default scenery in this area, this version is several hundred metres to the west and south of its real world position and the shape is slightly different, again to accommodate the default coastline.

If you have the VFR scenery installed, use the original upload (Portsmouth.bgl): if you don't have the VFR scenery installed and are just using the default, use this version (Portsmouth_default.bgl).

Best
Pete

Hi Dave,
I e-mailed it to you a couple of hours ago - it should be in your inbox. Let me know if it's not arrived and I'll re-send.

Portsmouth is now in the FlyNET database. I'll add some routes as soon as I get a round tuit.
