While in the Fleet Air Arm, I was stationed at Lee-On-Solent, I am sure they had a runway, would that have been classed as Portsmouth?

Lee-on-Solent / HMS Daedulus still exists and is midway(ish) between Portsmouth and Southampton. Portsmouth airfield was a 3 runway grass effort on the NE corner of the main 'island' that constitutes Portsmouth. Since it was closed in 1973(?) its become a housing estate and an industrial park.

Bill,

Sorry for the quality of the shot but Pompey Airport was as shown in the pic below..

To get your bearings.. the little island in the top LH corner is Whale Island though I'm sure you probably guessed that

Hi Dave,
I think you'll find that what you've indicated as being the old airport, is actually the Portsmouth public golf course! Theairport was a little further to the north.

We could do with Portsmouth for some VA flights hint hint.
John, many apologies for taking so long to answer - I let my irritation with some of the posts in this thread get in the way of basic good manners.

I'm sorry but I don't think I can help. My Portsmouth consists simply of a grass area in the correct location with 3 runways in the appropriate configuration.

It was designed just for my own use and was never intended for general release.

All the best

Pete, as I stated earlier,I was not having a pop at you.
It was constuctive criticism, based on over eight years of scenery design.

I am not one of the people who drools over everything that is designed, and I do not suck up to people just for the sake of it.

If no-one ever points out to you, areas in which you can improve things, your scenery will never get any better.

Don't take it personal mate, I was trying to improve the scenery......not the man.

Hi Pete,

I guess if it were to be used for the VA then effectively it would be on general release so I respect your decision.

Thanks and regards

John

Hi John,
Thanks to DaveB's intervention, things have changed since I made that post. Portsmouth is now available to the VA.
Best
Pete
