A new book has just been published by Pen & Sword entitled 'Drop Zone Borneo' by Roger Annett a 215 Squadron RAF pilot during the Borneo Confrontation' 1963-65.
This is a really good read of a pilot on his first tour flying Argosy aircraft on low level supply drop flying amid the hills and bad weather. Some of these dropzones were only 20yds x 20yds!!!
An episode about which Denis Healey said was 'the most successful use of armed forces in the twentieth century.' A eyeopener on this little known but successful feat of arms. Having read this book you will understand what those who wear the 'Borneo' clasp experienced.
A time when the Royal Air Force was a great deal larger than it is today and you may be surprised to learn who was supporting 'the enemy' at that time.
Please note I am not a bookseller. As a schoolboy I had set my heart on a career in the RAF and I also have a great interest in the history of that service.
You could always try some of the routes with Rick's civil Argosy.
