Cool photo's, of course the Cole was only a 8,500 ton warship not a 150,000 ton. At 150,000 tons she would have been the largest warship ever. Nimitz class aircraft carriers are only 105,000 tons.

A very similar thing was done after HMS Nottingham was run aground on the worlds biggest rock a few years ago.

I feel sorry for the Captain of the Nottingham. I am sure that its the same in all navy's where running aground is the second worst thing a captain can do and probably ended his carrier.

I seem to remember from reports at the time that the Navigator got the rocket for it...after all, he should have known that they were sailing at a damn great rock, and if the Captain was not on duty at the time, he cannot be expected to have averted the incident. Im sure DaveB could probably tell us who would have been in hot water though.
