Missing Comet virtual cockpit & wierd engine sound.
I'm brand new to this site & fairly new to FS & sorry, my knowledge base is miniscule so thank goodness for CBFS ! I am however, a fast learner.
I downloaded David Malty's Comet yesterday evening & find I have no virtual cockpit view. The main one is fine with lots of detail of wear & tear & I can look round the cabin too. BUT - no v/c view. Have I done something wrong with the installation?
The other thing I've noticed is that the sound doesn't come across as jet
engines but more like a Cessna sounds. It may be that what I have is right but I was hoping it would be more like my Trident or similar.
I will downlaod more British aircraft when I get this one right, & I will be sending a donation to the chaps making them. I am amazed they are free.
Oh - it's wonderful to have a Comet winging across my skies. That & the VC10 makes FS almost perfect!!
Terry.

David Maltby's aircraft panel & sound files are all kept in a special folder "DMFS Shared Files", within the "Aircraft" folder.
If you think your sounds are incorrect, check this file & you should have a folder "DH106 Comet 4 Sound".
If that is in place, then check the "Sound" folder in your aircrafts folder. It should have a "Sound.cfg" file. Open this & it should have two lines - the second saying "alias=DMFS Shared Files\DH106 Comet 4 Sound".
Hope this helps.

Hi Terry
If you have not downloaded a sound file it may use the last one it used which could account for it being a Cessna
Just a thought
I have had situations where because FS couldn't find the right sound it used the previous

I did download the sound file. I've had a look & I have a DMFS Shared folder in Aircraft with 1: DH106 Comet4 Documentation & 2: DH106 Comet 4 Panel folders in it. I also checked the Sound folder & right at the top is a DH106 Comet4 Sound folder with 12 Windows Media Player files & a 13KB sound CGF file.
I suppose it isn't really a Cessna sound but more prop than jet as the only way I can describe it. I've played the WMP files & they all work. I'll run my VC10 & see if the Comet sounds anything like it. From the VC10 cockpit tho' you can hardly hear the engines!! I was expecting a real jet sound so I quess the real Comet might not have been? I mean the F104 Starfighter sounds wierd.
Thanks,
Terry.

Hi Terry,
The "DH106 Comet 4 Sound" folder should be in the "DMFS Shared Files" folder in your FS9/Aircraft folder i.e. the same place as the panel and documents folders.
Hope that sorts things out.
Nothing worse than a Comet that sounds like a Cessna.
Jon
Just checked as it's some time since I flew the Comet, mine doesn't sound a bit like a Cessna.

Thank you everyone - I moved the Sound folder into the Shared one & Wow,
this is a real jet! I've just landed at Southampton on a short hop from Bournemouth, my 'local' & having the proper sound made all the difference.
Can't wait to get a Dart now and where's that Meteor?
Chocks away & thanks,
Terry.
PS - I remember looking up when I was just a nipper to see what was making an horrendously loud sound & the Brabazon sailed by, fairly low too
as it seemed to fill the sky up & over to my right. It was an unforrgetable moment & I became hooked. I don't suppose anyone has made a Brabazon?
