VC10 Super and Transatlantic Service Service Inaugurated.

Post by blanston12 »

VC10 Super Service was Inaugurated today with a flight by Dan Hansen with a flight from London Heathrow to Frankfurt.

Later that same day we had our first transatlantic flight with a VC 10 Super arriving in New York JFK from London Heathrow.

Both flights lost money but as we dial in the fuel consumption we will do better.

After another flight, using up the surplus fuel from the first flight, VC10 operations are now +9,611,000v$.

For future reference, fuel in Bermuda is cheap at 1.09 per liter.

Well done guys! Fuel prices will definately come into play quite significantly with the VC10.

Hi All

Yes I was asked to do the honors, but unfortunately It didn't go all that well ;-)

First thing: I choose a wrong flight! Cancelled and immediately lost money!

Every thing did go well, as I took off from EGLL on schedule at 19:45 the whole flight soon turned into a night flight as the darkness came when I was over water.

When I approached EDDF, there was HEAVY traffic, which resulted in 3 go-arounds, a lot of fuel burned, and breaking the 250knot speed limit on one of the go-arounds.....

Finally the rwy was clear (7L), and the landing went well...until I applied reverse, and saw that I only had reverse on #1 engine......brakes, brakes, brakes....but that didn't keep from breaking the 25 knot taxi speed limit as I turned off the rwy to avoid running out of asphalt....

While taxiing madly around the airport, I found out that I had lost control over #2,3 and 4...they couldn't be shut off...!......finally hitting parking breaks I managed to switch off the fuel flow to effectively stop the engines....phew.......well...lost money and only did a 90%......real time was now 0330 (FStime 22:12 or so)..so I went to bed, trying to figure out how to make up for the money loss next time...

What an experience....this is not the last time ;-)

Well done to all involved in setting up this new aspect to FS....and a warm welcome to the VC10's at CBFS-VA.
Best Rgds
Dan

Well Done to both Dan and Joe

John and I were watching Dan's progress on the flight monitor with bated breath wondering how he was doing for fuel and if the CBFS 1-11 and Argosy in the air at the same time would land before him!! The 1-11 certainly did and the Argosy was in descent as I headed off to bed.

Despite the massive customer appeal of the VC10, it is obvious that fuel is going to play a huge part in her profitability but while so many pilots are earning good revenue on the Trident and Vanguard runs, we're able to withstand these early losses
