Was just wondering if any of you still play B17 II - The Mighty Eighth by Microprose. Its a classic game, but I cant get it to run under XP. If anyone knows of a way of making it work, Id be very grateful to know!
Used to have it on the Amiga. The engine sound never changed though even at full throttle. I used to give my crew personal names (it was in the game, I am not odd), and if it was someone I didn't like I hoped they got shot.
Nurse.............. can I go back now, to the happy place?
Onwards and Upwards!!!!!!!!
Jetty!
If God had of meant us to fly, he would have given us wings! He did, it's called an aeroplane!
I either get an initialization error or it fails to detect the CD, ehatever compatibility option I use  Im sure I heard someone on here mention that thry had it running a while back, cant think who it was now
Jetty, the version your thinking about is probably the prequel to the one Ive got. Microprose released the DOS version as freeware a few years back, and ironically... the damn thing works fine in XP! Would like to get my version running though, the graphics still look good after about six years, and the crew and damage modelling has, IMHO, never been bettered.
I've had a look at the link Rick gave me, and others it pointed me to, and it seems the game wont run 'out of the box' under XP - not on my system anyways  However, there is a v2.0 patch which might do the trick. Catch is , it is no longer hosted by any of the sites that used to provide it. I dont suppose anyone has a copy of it do they?
