I cant really say much more than everyone already has - as teaboy
for the beta group its been a real honor and even after over four months
of flying the thing daily (not a joke) and spending hours combing the web
for photos then pouring over them to find details for the wizards to use.
I still find it fresh and new everytime - there are very few aircraft in
FS that I can comfortably fly in VC all the time - in fact I can count them
on one had, The Budgie is on that list. BrianG - I grew up within 4 miles
of Staverton and remember SJT and the rest - I tried unsucessfully
to persuade the powers that be to do a "Smiths" series - but as was
politely explained to me (I still have the bruises  ) The Varsity would
take some remodeling (the ventral pannier) and there is no Gemini
available (who wants to do that one?) but it would be nice to recreate
Smiths hangar with them all parked outside wouldn't it?

EDIT... The following also from Leif on a different thread, now deleted..
Moved the conversation about Smiths from the 748 Thread

DaveB , Rick - It was me that asked Garry about doing a Smiths
pack - I didnt realise that Rick had done a varsity already -
The Photo I found had SJT , OSE, and PAZ on the apron in front of
Smiths Hangar at Staverton - which should make it easy to date knowing
the date that SJT was delivered and the date AZ crashed - and in the
photo AZ most defintly had the pannier - now all we need is a gemini and
an Anson 21 and we could turn out a Smiths Instruments Package

They also had a prentice at one time I believe

Leif..

The Varsity is already painted up in Smiths though from what you say, the pannier may well be incorrect. This said.. I have a b&w of G-APAZ and the current model is a good enough likeness

As to the pannier - not sure what it is and why but I'll find the shot of AZ and you can see it :)

The reason I never never painted the Smiths Varsity was beacuse it did not have the pannier.

Garry,

I have a shot of G-APAZ with the pannier. I'm not sure if it had it when it crashed but it was certainly there when registered/painted as 'AZ'

Somewhere i have pics of it with the gondola fitted.

I used them when i painted the smiths paint on the Varsity.
They may have been loas in my HDD crash a year or so back.

I would not have painted it if i had not seen photos like yours.

Regards
Rick

Hi Rick

TBH I didn't even relise until today you had painted it.

Someone requested it a while ago which is strange if it's already there.

But I said nostraight off because I knew it differed in that respect.

I may well have been fitted with the pannier at first I just have never see a pic of it.

I think G-APAZ was the one that crashed

not this one.

this one had Gondola removed for Trident autoland trials thingys but flew Trident trial with gondola first.

I believe there was a probem with interference with the gondola fitted.

Rick
