Just like what happened to my dad. When he phoned to complain they complained that they were busy attending more urgent crimes due to lack of staff and that they were very sorry.

With that my dad took some photos for insurance purposes and got the car resprayed.

And you know what? That was over a year ago and the cops still haven't arrived.
"Sir!!! Yellow nosed b******s, twelve o'clock high!!!"

"Break formation, break!!!"

I am very sorry to hear about what happened to you. My dad had his car vandalised and the cops took ages to come so I wouldn't hold my breath.

I wouldn't blame people from ethnic backgrounds though. My best friend is from abroad and he's far more polite and civilised than a lot of born and bred British people I have met. My guess is it must have been a druggie or a chav.
Haha, the fact is that I'm pretty much bred British, if not born. Grandparents got their phd's here and we've been here ever since, not counting forays thanks to my dad's work.

I know what you mean though. Having said that, not all Britons are, well, like us, BT. :(

I'm not gonna go too in depth either, should be working on my site for a bit as it's been neglected this past week...

I do find your comments that it was "one of our ethnic friends" a tad alarming.

In areas where there is a higher proportion of people from ethnic minorities living there is bound to be a proportionately higher number of crimes commited by members of that particular race/religion/whatever.

However, it was a blanket statement supported by zero evidence and I personally found it quite offensive, as would my beautiful and completly law abiding, well educated but Asian girlfriend...

In a situation where an offence has occuored overnight between two rough times and where there are no witnesses/CCTV it is not an efficent use of resources to send an officer to take exactly the same details a civvy call handler could take over the phone.

I realise this is impersonal and I personally feel it a very bad state of affairs when it comes to having to do this but you must understand the massive strain officers are under and the quite frankly absurd, in many cases verging on unmanagable, workloads individual officers have.

Like VEGAS, I would also advise not touching anything, or as little as possible so the SOCO chaps can try and get prints/DNA.

If the window is open to the air try and cover it to protect things from the elements.

Unlike CSI on the telly, fingerprints can be quite fragile little blighters and the surfaces they are on must be very smooth.

I know people are not ranting about individual officers but the whole system, I have personal views about the way the Police service is at the moment and the direction it is going and believe me, not too many of them are good!!!

It's very demoralising and can be difficult not to take personally.

In reply to ianhind, the issue of charging is now in the hands of the Criminal Protection Service...

The police are the public face so get the stick but hate to see burglars get away with a caution.

Am glad you have had a good experience from Nottinghamshire Police, I used to work out your way so it's quite possible it could have been me you had dealings with

Anyway, that wasn't as short as promised, must work on the site now.

Well I apologise if it has caused any offence to forum members but when you live in a town like Luton, you begin to tire of the residents from outside of the UK.
Take for instance my neighbours..... Polish, at least 2 families in 1 house, own cars better than my own, don't seem to be employed and neither car is taxed.

With rgds to the police, I understand that they are busy, but if they are that busy that somebody cannot spare the time to visit the crime scene then don't tell me that someone will be round. It's now 23:49 and I haven't heard from them.
I'd of been happier being giving the crime ref number and nothing else. I could of waitied in all day for them, but instead I got the window repaired via my insurance (something else I bet my neighbours don't have) then went out in the car.

I'm off out 2moro for a new stereo and I'm also going to get a floodlight for the drive.

Agreed 100%

A few bad apples and all that.

The police rang me this morning.... woke me up but never mind. They asked me if I wanted them to come out or not and sorry they didn't come yesterday, they were busy.

I told them it wasn't worth it, it had rained, I'd driven the car and the RAC Glass man had touched the car as well.

At least they called

So true Rick. Or he could just say they cut themselves on his window, the thief'll send his lawyer round!

Anyway, try and maintain a difference between 'ethnic' people and immigrants. They're not one and the same.
