Is the forum very slow or is it just me

Post by blanston12 »

For the last few days and especially today (Tuesday) this forum has been very slow, often can read at all with 504 errors and getting logged out continually. I wonder if its getting hammered by the AI bots, it happened to a sight I manage and took some effort to get things under control.

Very slow for me too over the last couple of days. Often taking 30 seconds or more to load a page.

Yes, theres some sort of problem, i had it a few months back too. Seems to clear on its own after a few days, but I’ve no idea whats causing it from the logs.

It’s working now for me also. When a similar thing happened on the site I manage I noticed that +80% of the calls were from the same user agent, I blocked that and the problem went away.

Working well here today, first time since Friday. A couple of months back, my usual forum had the same sort of problem. The current membership was then 1200, but users online was showing 6091 ! - the one being me and the other 6090 unregistered users, which would include some registered users who had not logged in.
I am not famiiar with php coding, but in computer terms it cannot be hugely difficult to set a limit to the permitted number of unnregistered guests if the numbers are already being logged.
