A bit disappointed

Post by Airspeed »

Today's forecast is 38C, strong winds, total fire ban etc.
I went outside because I heard the CFA Cessna 337 or 377 growling in circles. The sound is quite distinctive, but they use both models.
Whilst there, I watched a water bombing helicopter and co-ordinator helicopter pass over, heading North East.
Came back to check my mobile, because I have the VicEmergency app. which is supposed to send me an audible warning of events within a 10Km radius of our place.
Opened the app. and saw that there was a fire 1Km North of our town.
Don't know why I didn't get the warning. They'll be busy today, so I won't hassle them just yet.
Doesn't fill me with confidence though :worried: :worried:

UPDATE
I can only imagine that the sound wasn't audible because the phone was on charge at the time.
I've had it unplugged since, and it has gone off several times.
They extinguished the local fire.
There is a big one out of control near Creswick, about 25kms away, for which they issued an "evacuate immediately" notice.
FURTHER UPDATE
I can smell eucalyptus smoke, and hear sirens. App just reported another one 5Km South West of us.

Thanks, Ben, we are being careful.

You take care Mike! :worried: :hello:

If I could send you some of our cold rain I would (it was -7°C with a 'feels like' of -14°C with snow a couple of days ago, places just north of us had 12-18 inches of the crap!) :S

How are you Mike?
All good, thanks, Ben ;)
The only troublesome fires in the State at present are further West, in the Grampians Nature Park.
Still very early Summer yet....

Glad you are OK Mike.
Meanwhile we have more snow in the forecast for today but it should only be a dusting for us, Toronto on the other hand! :worried:
