I truly opened up my latest acquisition today.
It's an air speed indicator, operated by air pressure from the pitot tube.
This is without all the explanatory notes which will be typed on the image when I add it to the Flying Visit site.
Hope you find it at least a bit interesting.
btw, the needle still moves when I apply air pressure to the inlet

Due to shortages and cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off.

Heaps of dodgy paint on the dial, Jelle.
The instrument list describes it as luminous, but exposure to sunshine did not make it glow.

But it will in the dark!! Mike, when I used to fly gliders and on the daily check before moving them out of the hangers we had to check the ASI's to see if they worked, the only way to do this was to place hand over the pitot tube and it should move, trying any other way would cause damage so do be careful!!The instrument list describes it as luminous, but exposure to sunshine did not make it glow.

Maybe you'll get a better result using a ultraviote light, Mike?
I have a B1. -or C5 even a C1? dunno, I bought it from a surly man at an air show, I asked what plane it came out of, he just shrugged his shoulders and grunted... "something from the 40's . its 20 bucks, take it or leave it."
I bought it more as a souvenir to remember the air show , But now, nearly 40 years later, I can't remember anything about that air show ...except buying the light.
I meant to make a liitle light on a swing arm frame i could cannibalize one from some old desk light..
Never did get around to it.

No, I took it into a dark room immediately after the sunshine, but no glow.

Interesting piece
I've not seen one of those before. From my experience with UV, it really should show up any white bits.

I only applied slight air pressure with a tube and my lungs, no compressors or other stuff that could explode the bellows
