Joe, I can sympathise with you greatly for our dog was 13 years old and had to be put down due to suffering a very bad stroke. A dog becomes very much part of the family and I miss her terribly but at least I was with her when she was put to sleep and stayed with her for some time before going home.
I hope that for you and your wife, the pain of the loss will ease over time, I would also keep something such as a lead or collar to remember him by so you don't feel so alone without him. I have done this and the lead is still in my drawer, I could never throw it away.
Best wishes
Nigel.

Really sorry to hear that Joe. I know how much you loved him. Sending our love from the cold north east.

Re: Pugsley Dog
Thanks guys, we have kept his collar, which we took off him at the end. His leash does not hold the same significance to us, given his declining mobility he had not used it in some time, but we will probably keep it in case we get another dog.

Thanks Joe.
We heard from the family we got Pugsley from. They told us that he outlived both of his parents and all of his siblings. We must have done something right.

Always sad because whatever people say they are part of the family. I am sorry to hear the news and the advice I give is to get the photos out and remember the good times you had with him.
