Interesting video of WW1 Nieuport

Post by Nigel H-J »

If you go forward to 5mins 35secs for engine start. Never before have I heard a Nieuport engine fire up and on tick-over it sounds like the tappets are tapping loudly!!

I enjoyed it too, Nigel
It confirmed what I read in the notes to WW I combat sims; throttle is either full blast, or nothing.
That exhaust note was very clattery, no wonder the ground handlers put ear plugs in before the start up!

Nice video. One thing I did not like so much is that the shutter speed used was quite a bit too fast, freezing the propellor rather than having it blur.

I did show one thing I was curious about in the ground handling, when you have an aircraft without a steerable tail wheel and without brakes. In the sim I usually just have to end the flight on the runway as once the tail spar dropped there is no way to turn, because in the sim you don't have the guy who will hold onto the wing and help you spin the aircraft around..
