Brilliant idea Nigel. Did you know that the rear pulley shaft is coupled to a propshaft which passes through the vehicle to a propeller on the front of the car. Not sure if there is a constant speed unit fitted and variable pitch blades. I’m sure it will catch on though.Who’s going to invest their money in the idea? EricT

Edit. Sacre Bleu I’ve just had an idea for a MK2 version with manual back up! In the event of the pulley/ chain breaking, a lever in the car could be used to disconnect the propshaft and instead fit a crankshaft to the drivers pedals, connected to a gearbox which is also coupled to the prop. This cannot fail. Nigel get all your money out of the bank and patent this idea before someone else does. Alternatively you could send all your money to me and I’ll do it for you. Honest.

Surely it would be better to connect a hybrid car to the mains at night, leave the petrol engine running so as to supply electricity to the grid during off-peak time, then recharge the batteries for free from the grid in the morning, when the electricity is more expensive. That way, there would be no global warming, because the sun is not out, and you would use clean energy during the day. And it wouldn't cost you a penny either.

Well I’ve come up with an idea for wind turbines to continue producing electricity when there is no wind.
When the blades are turning they drive a shaft, connected to an internal generator which charges a set of batteries.
A sensor detects the lack of blade rotation which then causes a mechanism to operate which switches the batteries to a dc motor which drives the blades. How good is that? I’m amazed that no one has thought of this before.

I have just had a thought but this time to energize power without the need for atomic power stations or oil or coal or wind or even tidal waves.

Magnetic source. If you built 2 very large rollers both magnetic and bring them closer they would in turn react to each other and start spinning, now this is where it becomes far too technical for my poor brain but if they are large enough they would also be able to create an electrical field that could be used to power lights etc. The Rotating Magnetic Field: How about entering this to Dragon's Den as well Eric?
