It's funny how the strategic bombing offensive progressed. The RAF had to resort to area night bombing, while the USAAF was set on a policy of precision daylight bombing. Trouble was, all optical bomb sight rely on being able to see, and the weather over north-west Europe wasn't conducive to that. So, while the RAF got better with radar at night, the USAAF started to fit bombing radars to its B-17s. Both strategies kind of met in the middle
It is said that by late 1944, the RAF was precision bombing area targets, while the USAAF was area bombing precision targets.
