Do you know.....?
Do you know that awesome feeling when you get into bed,
fall right asleep, stay asleep all night and wake up refreshed
and ready to take on the day?
Yeah, me neither!!!

Dry January and I have to say I have been sleeping like a baby. I think I may stay off the Vino permanently (apart from weekends, special occasions and days ending in Y)

That saying has always puzzled me. Does it mean that the person wakes crying, needs feeding every couple of hours and changing in the morning

Re: Do you know.....?
Since I became ill in about 2000/1 I literally cannot remember the last time I slept all through the night. I saw an article on the BBC website in the last week or so that was very enlightening and it appears my body may have slipped into an ancient sleep pattern that has been referred to as 'segmented', 'biphasic' or 'polyphasic' sleep. Apparently it was very popular in medieval times and Chaucer even wrote about it in the 'Canterbury Tales' in 1387-1400!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biphasic_ ... asic_sleep
I often take what I call 'power naps' during the day or after my evening meal and they usually last about 20-30 minutes and I either set an alarm or get my wife to wake me up so that I do not sleep too long and spoil the effect. On waking I generally feel refreshed and energized again so for me it works!
I keep a book reader/tablet by the bed and when I wake in the middle of the night I will play a few games or read a few chapters of a book until I feel tired enough to sleep again.

I tried Melatonin at one point too but instead of making me sleep better it just gave me more frequent and more angry dreams. I dream every night (multiple times) and most are in full colour and if I am feeling ill or stressed when I go to bed (or my health goes down while sleeping) they can get very vivid and angry to the point where they become nasty nightmares and I wake up sweating profusely and in panic mode!

Re: Do you know.....?
I suffered severe insomnia for about 12 years. Then I read 'The Effortless Sleep Method' by Sasha Stephens, a fellow sufferer, and was sorted out in days. The fact that she herself had suffered with it gave her a kind of authority. In the first chapter, she listed about 12 aspects of her insomnia, and I was ticking each one off with a mental " Yes, that's me..yes, that's what I think too ". The effect of ticking off this list was to dismantle the insomnia mind-set, and the result was noticeable almost immediately. I'm not joking - this started in the first two chapters, before I'd read the rest of the book.
It's the fact that she went through it, and that I recognized her causes and symptoms as my own, that changed something deep-rooted in my mind, and it became a simple case of " What she went through matches my own experience - therefore what she says must be genuine". Bingo - the self-fulfilling insomnia worry dissolved, and that really was the end of 12 years of misery.
By the way I tried Melatonin too. You can get it by special prescription in the UK and it's expensive but it didn't work very well for me either.

Here I've seen Melatonin openly on sale in 5Mg and 10Mg doses no GP needed. Although Costco seems to only sell it in the 5Mg dose. It's not expensive. I tried it a couple of times and boy it gave me weird very lucid dreams. But like most 'drugs' continued usage leads to lessening effectiveness. Best not to use it for long is my philosophy.
