Post by Kevin Farnell »

Sad to report that the last surviving Ace from the Battle of Britain has passed away aged 101.

Bkue Skies, Wing Cdr!

Rest in Peace Sir.

Regards
Nigel.
I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.

He was awarded the DFM, doe that mean he was an NCO during the battle.

Yes, most likely a Sergeant Pilot, had he been an officer it would have been a DFC. Did well though to survive and finally end up a Wing Commander.

Greatest respect for those young men who did so much against the odds.

Allan : quite correct - he was Sergeant Pilot RAFVR until 3rd December 1941 when he was Gazetted as Pilot Officer with seniority from 27 November 1941 . RIP Wing Commander
