Rebuilding my FSX

Another filler during this quiet time:
Disk recognition problems months ago meant that I had to shift the FSX.
Once the computer started talking to the various drives again, links to my add-ons were irrelevant.
I decided to start from scratch on the SSD which was bought to be my new "C" drive.
Used System Mechanic to scrub the SSD, and proceeded with the new set up.
Haven't had much trouble with the aircraft, except the prop wouldn't spin on the A2A Piper PA28, even though it flew
The ORBX scenery seems OK.
Am now trying to get OZX back in the fold. As some of you may know, they've gone off the net, but most/all files have been archived and are accessible from other places, like FlightSim.com.
I'm considering upgrading my 3x2Gb RAM to 3x8Gb. Would this speed things up, do you think? Never known which bits improve, or limit the performance.

More RAM is always a good idea, though 3 sticks?

More memory is always good. Probably won't help overall FPS, but should generally make things smoother as it won't be swapping out to the page file as much.

Your A2A Piper problem sounds like it's either advanced animations aren't selected in the fsx options, or simconnect isn't installed.

hang on a minute, having more RAM is rally helpful though as FSX is only 32bit I am sure that it can only use up to 4GB RAM. Even if I am correct don't let that put you off Mike, as if you have P3d as well the inrease in RAM will certainly speed things up. As for going 3X 8GB sticks you would be far better off using 2 X 12GB sticks if you are going to stick with 24GB. Using three sticks won't be as fast as using just two. (That is if you can get 2X 12GB Sticks).

Ah, I'd forgotten fsx can only use 4gb.
Still it's always good to have plenty.

I use https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/thre ... re.112556/ an application which assists in addressing the 4Gb limit of 32 bit applications. I have no idea whether it works or not but I have to say I don't seem to get the out of memory messages since I have been using it. No harm no foul to give it a whizz.

Nice to see you here
The motherboard has 3 blue, and 3 white slots for RAM.
It came with 3 slots filled, and I've thought that 3 matching slots need to be filled. I may have read that in the booklet.
Mrs A's unit has 2 slots, which must both be filled with a matching pair. I recently upped her RAM from 2x2, to 2x8.
No FSX on hers, though.
Haven't been able to post over a day or so, because SPAMHAUS blacklisted me. I didn't realise that my attempts at jokes were THAT bad. Someone else said they were blacklisted a while back. From the info on their site, it seems that I may have poor security on my IP address, or maybe somebody has managed to hijack my IP and used it to send out unpalatable emails. The only thing that makes any sense, would be that time when I posted an example of hosting pictures, and made up a hosting site address full of "x's", and it turned out to be an actual porn site. I modified the post as soon as it was reported to me, but maybe that marked me? Inexplicably, today I'm not banned.

It's not so much the running of FSX that bothers me, more the waiting time when changing aircraft or scenery. TBH, I don't know whether FS itself is accessing those libraries, or if it's a general computer function that grabs the needed files and makes them available.

DaveG: very likely that simconnect is missing; there are so many things that I did over the years, it's hard to recall them all when reinstalling everything from scratch. UPDATE: My FSX folder contains 9 of these files in various languages; they are all ".XZP" files from 2007, including one that apparently came with SP2. Does that mean I'm up to date, please?

Alex: you shouldn't do that to old people! I read it and my eyes are still spinning. Their example shows numerous .exe files in the game, but doesn't tell which ought to be selected. Maybe in FSX it's just "fsx.exe"?
