September 15th. I haven't seen any RAFA "Wings" collectors about today. Perhaps everyone's forgotten about that battle.
A couple of years ago on this date I was at formal dinner in the north of England and asked our host if I might be allowed to propose a toast. Permission was granted. Some guests were alive when the battle occurred but most were born after that time. Sheer astonishment greeted my toast to "The Few".
One person asked who were "The Few"!

You may well be right, but misplaced PC, Eric.
From what I've read, both sides respected the other.
PC people, like those who decided that Noddy & Big Ears should not share a bed, do not have my respect.
To the Few!

I think they don't teach them. My Grandson was a Sea Cadet and one day I said to him it's Trafalgar Day today. He gave me the what on earth is he burbling on about look. I had to explain to him what it was and what the Battle of Trafalgar was. That is a sea cadet.
