Dambusters' 75th Anniversary Radio Programme

Post by PeteP »

Those of you wanting to try something a little different to mark the 75th anniversary of the Dambusters raid, might like to listen to "Guy Gibson's Desert Island Discs" on Angel Radio on Wednesday and Thursday.

Although there's no recording of Gibson's appearance in 1944 as the 43rd castaway on the BBC show, the script still exists in the BBC's library and it's from this that I've been able to recreate the events complete with Gibson's musical choices and comments. It's being broadcast at 12.35 (BST) on Wednesday 16 May and at 08.00 (BST) as part of the breakfast programme on Thursday 17 May.

Angel Radio broadcasts on FM in the Portsmouth area on 89.3 Mhz and along the south coast between Brighton and Christchurch on DAB. It's also on DAB multiplexes in various other parts of the UK including some areas of London - search for 'Angel Radio'.

For those in other areas and overseas, Angel is available on various phone/tablet apps including RadioPlayer and TuneIn or by going to the Angel Radio web site at www.angelradio.co.uk where full instructions for 'listening live' are on the Home Page.

I hope you'll forgive this shameless self-publicity but I think some of you may find this programme of interest.

Pete

Haven't gotten around to looking up your programme yet, Pete. But I thought people might also be interested in this:

https://vimeo.com/270110170

It's a nicely done video about the recently unveiled memorial to the crew of ED865 S-Sugar, which was shot down enroute to the dams during the famous raid. Includes air-to-air shots of PA474, which was also present for the event.
Due to shortages and cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off.
