Belated apologies to the World for the disgraceful conduct of the Australian cricket team. :rant:

Very sad for the rest of the team who play fair and square. :( Our baseball pitchers here in the US have a very long history of tampering with the ball. It can actually work to their advantage after they get caught. From then on a batter (facing a previously naughty pitcher) may concentrate more on possible ball tampering than the actual pitch. Definitely messes with the batter's head.

The Aussies aren't the first to be caught ball tampering and they won't be the last..

For reference, these are the sanctions placed on players previously found guilty of ball tampering;

Michael Atherton: £2,000 fine
Waqar Younis: 1 ODI match suspension, 50% of match fee.
Sachin Tendulkar: 1 Test match suspension
Rahul Dravid: 50% of match fee
Shahid Afridi: 2 T20 match suspension
Faf duPlessis: 50% of match fee
Vernon Phillander: 75% of match fee
Faf duPlessis: 100% of match fee.

Maybe the players should get their balls tampered with. :-)
Steve.

If people are caught cheating they should be banned for life, no arguments and never be allowed to play professionally again. Whoever they are and whatever sport they play. Same for drug cheats.

Simon,
That's pretty much my thought.
Still, that's what I felt about the F1, when one car slowed to let his team mate win.
Cheers, Mike.

If you look at it. People paid good money to go and see a game of cricket that was fair and honest. By doing what they did, which was dishonest, they have on the face of it defrauded those people. Possible Criminal Offence? Might make people think twice if they could be prosecuted.
