Australia votes yes
You've probably heard this, but the public vote for same sex marriage was yes.
This is just a trigger for the G to discuss it, then decide whether to make it law.

Re: Australia votes yes
I know here in the states there was a lot of whaling and knashing of teeth over this before it happened, but now that it is the law of the land none the gloom and doom scenarios that were predicted ever materialized. In just the short time since it passes it now seems very normal.
Joe Cusick,

I thought they'd banned whaling.blanston12 wrote: ↑15 Nov 2017, 17:25I know here in the states there was a lot of whaling and knashing of teeth..
Re: Australia votes yes
Was the vote not to accept it then, just a go ahead for the Government to debate it?

Re: Australia votes yes
Correct, Paul.
There was going to be a plebiscite, but the political parties just argued about the details.
The Liberal/National coalition, currently in power, relied on an election promise (apparently this was one that couldn't be broken ) to go to the people. If we voted "No", they would not take it further; but if we voted "Yes", they would discuss it, then give themselves a conscience vote, ie. not necessarily vote along party lines. So now we wait.
The "Survey" which we voted on was forecast to cost AU$120,000,000. They reported that it came in under AU$100,000,000 so I guess that they'll celebrate with a AU$20,000,000 party (politicians and families only)

Will heels and stockings be optional?

Ah, I see.
Well it'll probably be more slick than the EU departure we're currently making a meal of!
