Last week I had a message from Stu of Stu-Art Aviation Furniture (see: https://www.stu-artaviationfurniture.co.uk/), asking if I was available on Thursday. I suspected straight away why so replied that yes I was available.
Off we went to Prestwick to finish the dismantling of the long-time resident B747, N852FT. The majority of the aircraft was already scrapped but the cockpit and upper deck have been saved by Stu. I've flown numerous times on 747s, mainly upper deck on freighters. However, one only truly appreciates the size when you try to fit the pieces on a lorry

It's at NELSAM in Sunderland. I heard that the upper deck was going to be used as the basis for a holiday home or something like that.
Edit: I may have confused this with the Avro RJ front fuselage that was there this summer. Looks like the 747 will stay with the museum.
Due to shortages and cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off.
