Avro Anson Gear Travel

Post by Bridon Bear »

I have been pootling around this morning in the superb FS Addon Avro Anson with one of Peter's excellent repaints and one of the small niggles I had was that the gear would retract or extend at exactly the same time. I much prefer a slight asymmetric travel which to me looks more realistic. As we know there are not many aircraft whose gear travels at identical speeds.

Anyway, I have 'adjusted' the .cfg on the Avro 19 with a 3-second delay on the retract and extend time on one leg to see how it looks and to me, it looks just right. I know this is a 'still' screenshot but it does look a lot better in the sim itself.

The other slight niggle is the gear travelling sound in the cockpit...far too short at just 4 secs...when the gear takes from 10-15 seconds it could do with a longer sound wav but I don't have the kit to do that sadly.

Anyway...it was easy to do but if anyone wants the 'modified' .cfg then I have added it below. ;)

Goldwave https://www.goldwave.com/ is a nice app to modify sound files. They encourage you to purchase a license of course but the program will allow you to make all sorts of modifications to various types of sound files free of charge. :) It's been a number of years since I've used this but the current version still allows you to make these modifications without purchasing a license. Hope this helps.

Thought the Anson had hand-cranked landing gear, some 144 turns of the handle to retract/lower

It does Pete though Canadian examples had powered gear. This was retro-fitted/incorporated to later versions. The model comes with 'sounds' for both and the problem with the powered version is that the sounds stop well before the gear is up/down ;)

Problem with ALL FSAddon models is that they come out buggy or with errors that could, should the will be there, be fixed by their one or two devs in very short order. Unfortunately, there is always a 'reason' why this never happens. Considering the Anson was in beta for over 12months, this should never have got through to the release. Include with this the fact the trim wheel animates the wrong way 8) Both of these were reported straight after release and here we are, a very long time down the line with nothing done and no sign of anything being done. 8)
