I've got the Tiffie too and noticed the bounce on landing, you might want to watch doing a main wheel only landing though as that big prop was/is prone to hitting the ground if the tail gets too high. I saw a comment online somewhere that RW pilots from WWII stated that a three-pointer was the way to land it because of the prop-strike issue, I also read a report from a Canadian pilot who claimed that only his first Tiffie landing was perfect, after that the rest were just controlled crashes!

I also noticed a couple of fuel related issues with the model. I was flying it the other day and saw that it had an appallingly short range according to the fuel computer I use in a pop-up panel I install on all my aircraft. That led me to do some investigating and after downloading the Typhoon POH from a site I found online I discovered that AH made a basic blunder when setting up the fuel tanks in the aircraft.cfg file. The numbers they used do match up to the numbers in the POH, but, what they didn't take into consideration is that they were/are values in Imperial gallons and FSX uses U.S. gallons and thus the total fuel capacity is somewhat less than it should be. Converting the Imperial gallon values to U.S. gallon values made a difference to the range but it was still short of what it should be. As a quick fix I played with the fuel efficiency scalar and I currently have a value of 0.8 (instead of 1.0) which gives me a range of 500+ NM which will do me for now until I can do some more testing to find the 'sweet spot' as far as true range goes.

In early March 1943, at Tangmere, the then new Squadron Leader of 486 (NZ) Squadron, Des Scott, flew a Typhoon for the first time:


She roared, screamed, groaned and whined, but apart from being rather heavy on the controls at high speeds she came through her tests with flying colours...Applying a few degrees of flap we swung on down into the airfield approach, levelled out above the runway and softly eased down on to her two wheels, leaving her tail up until she dropped it of her own accord.

Agree that it seems a little hairy given the prop size but that's crazy Kiwi's for ya (presuming he was a Kiwi) TBH.. I've done nothing serious in it knowing a SP was on the way but I'll surely take your observations along with me

I downloaded the update last night, (No I was not able to exercise control for long) It does seam much better than V1.0, more stable on takeoff and landing, strange smoke square effect is better for engine startup, and I do like the new livery they included.

No problem Dave, I also noticed something else when comparing values in the aircraft.cfg to the POH. The critical altitude in the aircraft.cfg file is set at 10,000 ft but the POH states the CA was 18,0000 ft so I adjusted that too.

Got this yesterday. Only a couple of brief flights so far but it seems quite nice. No bounce on landing yet. Must be your flying Dave.
Noticed most of the textures that don't have stripes on the wing underside have a stray bit of topside paint on the starboard trailing edge. Easily fixed, but should have been picked up and fixed before release. Elevator movement looks too high for a given stick input. Sounds seem a bit quiet. Don't like the prop effects much. Handling feels about right. No idea if it hits the numbers. Textures generally look good. Opening the model with MCX throws up a warning about 15 or so missing textures. They're mostly on tiny parts so wouldn't get noticed but FS will still be wasting time looking for them. Managed to find most in other JF/AH models I have.

Overall, a fairly typical AH model. Basically quite good but with some things that really should have been picked up on before release.

Seriously, I'm baffled. The harder I try to avoid a bounce.. the more it bounces I've even thought of putting crash detection on and coming in with the gear up

I'll have to try a bit harder! There was a tiny bounce but just what you would expect really. Still, only tried one landing so far, so I'm sure it will happen sooner or later.
I didn't have as many JF points as I thought I did so it ended up costing £13. Worth it? Yes, I think so. Have to see if I can do something about that prop blur though.

A tiny bounce I could put up with. It is, as you say, expected. With the distance I appear to be going (and it looks even worse from outside).. I'd note it as a fluffed landing which we all do every now and again but the rebound damping on the Tiffy seems just a little too strong for me which is mighty frustrating

The prop blur is oddball isn't it.

I have enough points to have bought it outright with change to spare but for some reason.. I didn't. Still waiting for that elusive software that I really want and can't afford

Bouncy bouncy. I now see what you mean Dave. Spent most of yesterday evening trying to minimise it but no joy. Nothing I tried seemed to make any difference. Even went as far as copying the entire contact points section from the modded AF Corsair and it still bounces like jelly on a pogo stick.
