I've been using 'Snapper' to capture screenshots for years and have been very happy with it. It can be found here:
http://www.michielovertoom.com/software/snapper/
It will work with any program you want to capture screens from and it has specific settings for flight sim whereby it can add your location and altitude to the screenshot too if you so desire.
It's a great little program and one I wouldn't be without.

Dave is correct on this, Jpg uses a compression that is optimized for the way humans see photographs, smoothing out gradients and removing small changes that we normally would not see (mp3's do the same thing for sound). That may cause the Jpg to look 'better' but its not exactly the same as the original, and yes you loose data. Png compression uses compression methods that preserve all the data, even if it does not look as 'good' as the Jpg, it looks exactly like the original.DaveG wrote:Jpg is a lossy compression format, png isn't.
Every time you resave a jpg the quality will get slightly worse depending on the amount of compression.
To do a real test you need to take a raw image photograph and compress them both from the original, if you start with someone else's photo that has been compressed you won't get a view of what they can do.

Thanks for the tip regarding Snapper, Larry.
Oh, all the years I've wasted taking screenies the old fashioned/time consuming way.
Here's a screenie I just took with Snapper using its default settings. As you can see it did a great job capturing all of the heart-stopping action of me bringing the SibWings Cessna Bird Dog aboard USS Nimitz.
Snapper is a great app.

It's OK, I found where it is and changed it to .jpeg Curiously that "e" causes a silly problem till I change it to .jpg

Worst thing.. I've had Snapper for years but only used it for a short time. For a screenshot.. I still use Print Screen.. then Paint to 'save as'.. then cut it to bits in PSE! Why?? I dunno

It just means that I have to do extra processing on each screenshot.
I use "Postimage" for my screen shots.
When saving, it asks what file type to save as, and lets me change the default .png to .jpg
It works on my W7 and Mrs A's W10
Re: Testing a file type...
I like Snapper and use it all the time. but find very unstable. If it sits on the taskbar too long (say 4 hours +) unused it does tend to not work in my experience. No biggy as I try and remember to unload and reload it if I remember it has been running a while.
