Aeroplane Heaven Curtiss Helldiver in development

Post by Paul K »

I saw this mentioned over at Sim Outhouse:

I didn't really like their Meteor, and I'm not that bothered about the forthcoming Hunter, but this Helldiver is a little more unusual, and a very interesting aircraft to boot. Another one for Dave B's hangar deck ? ;)

You know me.. a HUGE fan of AH :funk:

It MAY get added at some point but only because it's something new to land on a carrier. Not really a Helldiver fan in any shape or form. It looks wrong

Possibly the only aircaft the FAA ever rejected as being unsuitable for carrier ops. 1820 NAS did briely operate them but by the time they'd crossed the Atlantic the Admiralty had given up on the idea.

I know Captain Eric Brown flew a Helldiver, but it doesn't get a report in the book I have. I'm sure I've read his opinions of the SB2C somewhere, though.

Ugly it certainly is, but do we need another 'pretty' plane, like a P-51 or Spitfire, F-16 or Eagle ? For example, I think I've had a Mustang in just about every flight sim I've ever owned, from Aces of the Pacific , Pacific Air War 1942, Aces over Europe, Microsofts CFS, IL2, FSX and now P3D. It's so refreshing to see something overlooked and unglamorous instead of the usual fare. The more I look at it, the more I like it. :)

The report on its handling is in Wings of the Navy. He's not a big fan.

I'm just wondering why this was recently announced.

In front of me I have a list of 9 or so "upcoming" releases including the Typhoon, Hunter and Javelin from AH/JF. A few of these I've been tracking for a long, long period of time and others were mentioned to be released last month or this month. :poke:

Although I look forward to a Helldiver in my collection, I worry that perhaps they have bit off more than they can chew? They mentioned a March release on their Facebook page. We shall see. Anyone wanting to place bets?? :welldone:

Interesting that your post here is of a very different nature to the one on SimOuthouse. As I have stated there, we at Aeroplane Heaven have only two products awaiting release - the Typhoon which was announced in December and the Helldiver which was announced on the weekend, Hardly "vapourwear" We do build for others like Just Flight but we are subject to their specifications and workmethods. We have no control over the timing of their products.

It is worth noting that the production of these models can take thousands of hours. Why is it that you think something can be designed, modelled, painted and the complete simulator -ready package can be completed in a few weeks? Vapourwear? Seriously?

Glad they are doing a Helldiver but would rather have a Dauntless.

Interesting that they are planning a March release, I would have though there VC10 was further along and it would be release before.
