Rise of Flight sale until Jan 9th 2017

Post by Paul K »

For those RoF users who might want to expand their collection, there's a sale on at the moment with discounts of up to 66% off. I've just splashed out and now have the lot. :)

If you don't have RoF and fancy a dabble, there's a trial version which is pretty much the full sim with three free aircraft.

It's worth a try, Nigel. I'm getting back into it after a long time away, and this sale has come just at the right time.

Well, a free demo anyway. Off hand, I can't remember what restrictions there are, compared to the full payware version. No doubt you will find the answer on the RoF homepage somewhere.

It's one of those sims in which you need to put some effort, in order to gain the full benefit. Setting up the controls for example - you can have control settings that are common to all the aircraft, or you can have custom settings for some of them. So, you might find that one control set-up is good for both the Albatross and S.E.5a. but the Camel, with its rotary engine, needs settings of its own. Similarly, the large bombers, such as the HP 0-400 and the Gotha, require something else again. My recommendation is that you pick one aircraft, and experiment with the settings to get an idea of how they influence the handling. On top of that, some of the aircraft are tricky to fly anyway ( apparently, as they were in real life ) - be prepared for a lot of ground looping until you get used to them.

It is a beautiful sim - the best WW1 sim we could have hoped for, in my opinion. :)

Thanks fro the advice Paul, do you have the full pay-ware version?

Regarding the Sopwith Camel that was very similar to the Pup and if I recall correctly, the Camel was far better in left turns than right due to as you say, the rotary engine. I believe that there were many crashes and loss of life involving the Pup due to the torque of the engine but it could get you out of trouble by turning left rather than right.

Yep Nigel, I have the payware version, and after this Christmas sale, I have all the add-ons too - all the aircraft, the aircraft modifications and the Channel map. I can't resist a sale. 8)
Regarding the Camel - as I say, I'm only just getting back into it, but I went on a multiplayer server once and was bounced by two Camels. They could turn on a sixpence, so I think that gyroscopic effect ( precession? ) of the rotary engine has been modelled. :)
