Canadian rescue?

Re: Canadian rescue?
Hi Robbie, I know this might not be the route you would like to go but for the moment I would not even think of P3D just yet as it would be a shame to lose all of the payware a/c you have not to mention other add-ons.
Have you checked your RAM...is it working properly? If afer that I would un-install FSX then do a complete re-install....a pain in the backside but I had serious problems loading flights due to FTX Central 3, in fact I re-installed Win7 then re-installed FSX but keeping FTX Central 2 and not installing FTX Central 3, FSX is running sweat as a pea now.
I know your issues are different ,but think about doing a re-install first as a last resort, it would be a shame to lose your payware a/c amongst others.
Not much help but at least something to fall back onto if all else fails.
Best of luck.
Regards
Nigel.

Hi Alex,Vancouver wrote:Here's a thing. When I examined my UIAutomation.dll file as downloaded above, it had under the general tab, a security entry stating "This file came from another computer and might be blocked etc...." Pressing the UNBLOCK button had no effect, every time I would look at the files attributes it would retain the "blocked" notice. I had to download a file from MS called "Take Ownership" - a very small file which adds a script in the PC Registry. Using that resolved the recurring "blocked" notice, The upshot of it all was that the sim ran smoother and had noticeably less lock ups and crashes.
This was all ages ago, but worthy of checking out IMO.
It's not a file that I have installed, found it in FSX folder so it must have been with the initial FSX install, so I'm assuming that it is working OK.
I should state that I have the RealAir Duke v2 "absolutely love it" I've managed quite a few flights without "many" freezes and a frame rate of around 20 fps, the worst problems come with PMDG stuff and QualityWings 146, I just don't think I'm going to improve the situation until I upgrade to Intel i7 or better, anyway after my second heart attack I've decided to sell the boat, so hopefully the piggy bank will be available again, don't like this getting old too much lol.

Hiya Robbie
PMDG stuff is notoriously heavy on system resources mate so while you may be miffed at the poor performance you're seeing.. you're not alone by a long way. The QW 146/RJ is no shrinking violet either. It wouldn't even load on my E8400 rig in FSX although the FS9 version ran as smooth as silk. Seeking the 'best of breed' very often comes a lot of baggage only higher end pc's can handle.
I think your system spec exceeds mine (if memory serves me right) so freezing after 10mins points to something else. My rig tends to get very tired after a couple of hours.

Re: Canadian rescue?
Possibly back to basics - is it overheating then & needs a dust out? Just a thought if its only with certain products. which reminds me - need to check my system for dust!

edit - Prog files (X86) is where they need to be, although registry bits will go to prog files. If you have more than one HDD or a SSD + a HDD as I have then I put my non operating system programs on the HDD.

Re: Canadian rescue?
I would install it to anywhere BUT Prog Files(x86). Keep FSX completely out of the standard install path in order to avoid problems you really don't need. Pick a drive you want to put it on and put it there be it C:\Flight Simulator X.. E:\Flight Simulator X. Best to keep it off the OS drive and on a dedicated 'Physical' drive if possible

Re: Canadian rescue?
Will agree with Dave Alex and Mike concerning installing FSX, mine is on the C Drive, depending on your choice for installing FSX, and if you choose say C Drive first create a new folder on the C: drive then rename it fsx, when you get to the main screen for installing FSX choose More Options then click on the Browse Button then you will see a list of programme folders. Highlight the folder you renamed fsx and click install then sit back and have a cup of tea!
Hope the above does not sound like teaching you to suck eggs but when I first did it I was worried that it might not install properly.

Re: Canadian rescue?
All this talk and now my FSX refuses to run. Stuck on loading and the event viewer tells nothing comprehensible. I'm sick of this thing. Going to DCS for a while
