Hi All,
I recently wrote to Robbie, in Newfoundland.
He is not asking for help, but on his behalf, I am.
A few of our members have done upgrades lately, and I thought that there may be some half decent cards that may help the poor bloke.
His little village is not exactly crammed with computer shops, and to get him up to FSX, I bought a copy and airmailed it to him. (Only took about two months to get there.)
Trouble is, he has not flown the sim for months because his unit just won't handle it. He's also retired and living alone, so he can't raid his wife's piggy bank.
In short, then, if anyone has a spare video card or memory chips that might help, could you either PM me, or post to this topic.
Meanwhile, I'll try and discover what his current hardware is, so that we can see what may be better than his current set up.

Wow what a gent and great guy you are to do that. Wish I had a card to assist. btw Canada Post sucks, I ordered a record cleaning kit last year from Toronto, and that took over 2 weeks to arrive. I tracked it from the warehouse in TO, it went from there to Windsor Ontario, Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, Calgary, Vancouver where it sat for 3 days then onward to my home town at YXX.

Attention all you performance Gurus!
Here's a comparison between Robbie's system and mine. Robbie likes to do long distance jet flights, but 10 minutes into the flight, his system freezes. Apparently the sound continues, but he eventually spots that nothing is moving. Some of his specs are higher than mine, yet his "experience" rates lower, and he has problems.
I know that we've talked about Windows accumulating redundant data, which it seems unable to "forget," but is there something else evident here?
Any help appreciated.

FSX can stop after about 10 mins if it has not registered correctly. He needs to look at the fault code in 'Control Panel > Admin tools > Event Viewer > Custom Views > Admin Events.'
I had a problem with mine & it showed that I did not have the correct version of UIanimationcore.dll in the right place. There is a thread over at SOH &/or Flightsim which links to the correct version for ones base Windows programme.

Aha! Found this at a Simlabs site, slight variation in the wording:
The UIAutomationCore.dll seems to be essestial for FSX and Windows 7 operating in 64 bits. Otherwise, you may be getting the same "Fatal Error" messages followed by a shutdown that is hurting a lot of other FSX users, as evidenced by numerous people like me reporting the problem in various forums on the web. One place where it may be downloaded is http://www.mediafire.com/?mik2mlqdz1w After saving it to your desktop or a folder, right click on extract all, extract the zip file, then using Windows Explorer drag the UIAutomationCore.dll into the main FSX directory. Apparently, FSX is a 32 bit program, and the UIAutomationCore.dll makes it work like a 32 bit program, thus preventing the fatal error messages that can come after serveral hours into an otherwise very satisfying fight. Moreover, for some users it speeds up their frame rates, and improves their display usage over dual monitor setups.

There are two versions of the Uiautomationcore.dll, one for W7 & one for Vista. You will need the Vista version for W8.1 & above. For Vista/W8.1/W10 its issue status is: 6.0.5840.16386. & needs to be inserted in your FSX folder, not Windows folder.
As for searching for UIAutomationcore.dll, you need to make sure that hidden files are exposed, you should then find another UIAutomationcore.dll in your main Windows32 folder - this version does not work with FSX! IIRC my Windows version was V7.2.9600.17795.

This is one of those files that may work but nothing is guaranteed. I run FSX under Win7 64-bit and don't have it. Some folk swear by it.. others say it made no difference. No harm in trying though

Hi All,

Thanks Mike for the help, I'm afraid I've been absent for ages due to sheer frustration with FSX, doesn't seem to matter how I try the system just can't handle the game, I lashed out on more RAM and a GTX 970 card etc but with the PMDG 777 sitting on the ramp at LHR I'm only getting 5 FPS, not much point in starting the engines like that lol!.

What to do next? I really don't know, the snow's coming and I'll be house bound for about 4 months, considered dumping FSX and giving p3d a shot but that would mean basically dumping most of the payware I bought!.
As I mentioned to Mike I have "team viewer" so I was hoping someone on here might agree to take a quick look at the diabolical mess I call my FSX folder, it's VERY likely that 99% of my problems are of my own doing, when it comes to computers I have the mental capacity of a large cabbage!!, the only other option I have is to ask around and try to find a local geek.
BTW I searched FSX folder and I do have uiautomationcore.dll installed.

Here's a thing. When I examined my UIAutomation.dll file as downloaded above, it had under the general tab, a security entry stating "This file came from another computer and might be blocked etc...." Pressing the UNBLOCK button had no effect, every time I would look at the files attributes it would retain the "blocked" notice. I had to download a file from MS called "Take Ownership" - a very small file which adds a script in the PC Registry. Using that resolved the recurring "blocked" notice, The upshot of it all was that the sim ran smoother and had noticeably less lock ups and crashes.
This was all ages ago, but worthy of checking out IMO.
